This installation features our FORS Gold Progressive Safe System (PSS) fitted to a scaffolding vehicle.

This vehicle presented a slightly different challenge. The bed was wider than the cab, which interfered with the detection zone required for the Blind Spot Information System.

To accommodate the vehicle's design, our engineer fabricated a bespoke mounting bracket to position the VRUD camera on the corner of the vehicle bed. This allows the system to provide the required detection coverage between the VRUD camera and the corner of the cab.

The installation also includes:

🔹 360° Vulnerable Road User Detection

🔹 MOIS and BSIS functionality

🔹 DVR-2380 solid-state video recorder

🔹 1TB SSD providing typically 200+ hours of video recording

🔹 Front, side and rear cameras

🔹 HD monitor

🔹 External audible left-turn manoeuvring alarm

The DVR can also be upgraded with Live View and Remote Access, giving operators the option to access footage remotely, particularly useful for vehicles that don't regularly return to a depot.

An annual test is an important check, but keeping a commercial vehicle roadworthy is an ongoing responsibility.

Between April and June 2026, 114,124 HGV annual tests were recorded across Great Britain, with 10.32% failing their initial test.

After defects were rectified, the final fail rate was 6.91%.

Vehicle safety technology is continuing to evolve.

In July 2026, the Department for Transport confirmed that the Government intends to proceed with a package of 18 vehicle safety technologies for mass-produced vehicles under the GB type approval framework.

The technologies cover a wide range of safety functions, including:

🔹 Direct Vision
🔹 Moving Off Information Systems
🔹 Reversing Motion Awareness
🔹 Emergency braking for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles
🔹 Drowsiness and attention warning
🔹 Advanced distraction warning
🔹 Tyre pressure monitoring

The aim is to improve vehicle safety, protect vulnerable road users and bring GB requirements more closely in line with wider international standards.

For operators, manufacturers and fleet managers, it's another indication of how quickly vehicle safety technology is developing.

And while the changes relate to GB type approval for mass-produced vehicles, rather than meaning every existing vehicle immediately needs all 18 technologies, the direction of travel is clear: technology is becoming an increasingly important part of vehicle safety.

DVS, FORS and CLOCS are often mentioned together, but they aren't the same thing.

DVS applies to HGVs over 12 tonnes operating in Greater London.

FORS is an industry accreditation scheme covering vehicle operators.

CLOCS focuses on construction logistics and community safety.
