🌊 Update on the Sea Cadets Lease & Harbour Facilities 🌊

This update includes:
- Update on the sea cadets
- Community toilets
- Future use of the previous sea cadets area
- Welcome ideas for the future harbour sustainability
- Our commitment

⛵ Update on the Sea Cadets

The Sandhaven & Pitullie Harbour Trust would like to update the community following the conclusion of the Sea Cadets’ lease at Sandhaven Harbour on 22 May 2026.

Over recent months, the Trust has made several attempts to engage with the Sea Cadets to explore a new, more suitable agreement that would reflect their continued use of the harbour for paddlesport activities. Unfortunately, despite every effort no communication or response has been received, and therefore no discussions have been possible.

➡️ Our offer for a future agreement remains open, and we would welcome constructive dialogue at any time should the Sea Cadets wish to return to Sandhaven.

🚻 Community Toilets – Temporary Power Disruption

As part of the lease conclusion, the Trust had planned to immediately reconnect the community toilets to the mains supply with minimal downtime. However, during the removal of equipment from the leased area, the main electrical cables supplying the toilets were cut back and dropped into the underground conduit, rather than being disconnected at the fuse box as expected.

This means the Trust now needs to arrange additional electrical and ground‑excavation works, currently estimated at £6,000–£8,000. As a result, the toilets will remain without power for longer than planned. We appreciate this is inconvenient and are working to restore supply as quickly as possible.

🌿 Future of the Former Sea Cadets Area

With the lease now concluded, the Trust will begin clearing the previously leased area. In the short term, we intend to re‑open the space to the public, providing:

✔️ Additional parking
✔️ A more accessible open area
✔️ Space for picnics and community use

Looking ahead, this area forms part of our wider vision to develop shoreside facilities that can generate income for the harbour, supporting long‑term sustainability and helping fund the improvement works that have been ongoing for the past 26 years.

We look forward to sharing more as plans progress, and we welcome suggestions from the community.

💙 Our Commitment

The Harbour Trust remains committed to:

✔️ Supporting youth organisations and community groups
✔️ Maintaining open, positive relationships
✔️ Keeping the harbour accessible and well‑managed for everyone

Thank you for your continued support as we move into this next chapter for Sandhaven Harbour.

🌊 Supporting Sandhaven Harbour’s Future – Together 🌊

Sandhaven & Pitullie Harbour Trust has recently written to the Sea Cadets to begin an open and constructive conversation about the future use of Sandhaven Harbour. The Sea Cadets have been an important part of our harbour community for many years, and we remain fully supportive of them continuing activities here. Our aim is simply to ensure that the arrangements in place reflect how the harbour is being used by the Sea Cadets.

Over the past two years, it’s become clear that the Sea Cadets’ programme at Sandhaven has changed, with intended activity now focused solely on paddle sports. As the operational use of the site has significantly reduced, the current lease is no longer suitable. We are therefore looking to work collaboratively on a revised arrangement that better fits current needs and supports the long term sustainability of the harbour.

Our goal is straightforward:
✔️ Bring the existing lease to an end; as it was specifically for a full Sea Cadet Unit Headquarters and boating base
✔️ Invite the Sea Cadets to agree a new, more appropriate lease; for a smaller area for kayaking equipment storage
✔️ Ensuring the electricity supply to the harbour community toilets; is restored at the earliest opportunity and safeguarded them against future interruption
✔️ Ensure the harbour land is managed responsibly; so it continues to benefit the whole community
✔️ Maintain a positive, supportive relationship with the Sea Cadets; as they shape their future programme

Our approach is constructive and community focused: supporting the Sea Cadets in the activities they wish to deliver at Sandhaven, while ensuring the harbour land remains a sustainable and well managed asset for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support the harbour and the work we do — together we keep Sandhaven thriving.

NEW FRASERBURGH LIFEBOAT

At 4.21pm (16.21) yesterday Fraserburgh’s new lifeboat the Tamar class 16-21, “John Buchanan Barr” entered Fraserburgh Harbour for the very first time.

Berth holders over the years at all harbours rely on the RNLI when least expected, we recognise the commitment and importance of this essential service.

Fantastic news for all.

🚐 MOTORHOME PARKING 🚐

We again this year are continuing to welcome up to 5 motorhomes on the grass area closest to the harbour (see area in the post picture).

This is year 26 of welcoming visitors to park here, we are excited to see who all we meet this year. These visitors are great for the local area, village shop, Chinese takeaway and pubs.

Each night a suggested £5 donation is requested, this can be paid in cash or via our online shop, and this is another way that the harbour continues to fundraise for all the improvements at and around the harbour.

For more information, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Storm Dave will bring a spell of very strong winds on Saturday into Easter Sunday morning which may cause some damage and travel disruption.

The yellow warning for wind runs from 5pm on Saturday through to 7am on Sunday.

Storm Dave, is likely to move northeastwards close to or across northwestern parts of the UK during Saturday evening and night, clearing to the North Sea by Sunday.

Whilst there is some uncertainty over the exact track, intensity and shape of this area of low pressure, a period of strong west to southwesterly winds is expected during Saturday night and into the first part of Easter Sunday, before gradually easing through the day.

Peak gusts of 50-60 mph will be possible fairly widely, with 60-70 mph in more exposed locations. There is a slight chance of some very strong winds at times where gusts of 80-90 mph may be possible in exposed areas for a time.

Large waves may lead to some dangerous conditions around windward coasts.

There is also a yellow warning for snow from 3pm Saturday through to 3am on Sunday.

Accumulating snow on roads will mostly be above 200m elevation, where 5-10cm is possible and a small chance of 10-20cm.
