Fowey Harbour

Fowey Harbour Fowey Harbour Commissioners are the statutory Trust Port body set up initially in 1869
(1003)

Fowey Harbour is situated on the south coast of Cornwall, approximately halfway between Plymouth and Falmouth. The Harbour of Fowey is named after the town of the same name, situated on the western side of the mouth of the river Fowey, with Polruan opposite. The harbour is bounded by other towns and villages ; Bodinnick, Golant, Mixtow, Penpol, Lerryn, St Winnow and Lostwithiel. The Fowey rises on Bodmin Moor and, on average, 93 million gallons of water flow through the harbour each day.

Polruan Pontoon Update

Polruan pontoon is ready to go, but we’re currently holding off installation due to forecast poor weather over the Easter period and unsuitable tides for our vessels to get it in place.

We appreciate many of you will be eager to see it in, but these conditions are key to ensuring the installation can be carried out safely.

As soon as there’s a suitable window, the pontoon will go in.

POSITION OF HARBOUR COMMISSIONER

Can you help shape the future of Fowey Harbour?

Fowey Harbour is a Trust Port with a busy commercial sector and is a popular leisure area for both residential and visiting boats. The primary role of the Board of volunteer Commissioners is to shape the strategy and management of the Harbour for the benefit of harbour users and other stakeholders.

A long-standing Commissioner is retiring from the Board and so there will be a vacancy to fill. The position will be appointed from May 2026 for a 3-year term. There are monthly meetings and occasional other commitments. This is an unpaid, voluntary role and is open to people from all walks of life who want to make a positive difference to the management of the Fowey Harbour and Estuary.

Please visit our website for more information and details of how to apply.

Closing date: 10th April

To work under the supervision of Senior Patrol staff to enhance the Harbour safety. This involves providing information and assistance to harbour users and ensuring the implementation of Harbour Byelaws by means of on-the-water patrols as well as ashore on slipways and other Harbour locations.

Volunteer Cruise Ambassadors

Love Fowey? Enjoy meeting people and helping visitors feel at home?

When cruise passengers come ashore, many are simply looking for a friendly welcome and a bit of local guidance, whether that’s directions around the town, information about public transport, or recommendations for places to visit, eat, or shop. To support this, Fowey Harbour Commissioners are looking for Cruise Ambassadors.

This is a voluntary, informal role, focused on greeting visitors, answering questions, and helping them make the most of their time in Fowey. No previous experience is needed – training and guidance will be provided. There’s no set commitment, and volunteers can get involved when they’re available.

We are also looking for a Lead Volunteer to help coordinate the ambassador group on cruise days.

Language skills, particularly French or German, would be an added bonus, but are not essential.

A friendly face and a bit of local knowledge can make a real difference to visitors’ experience and help them feel genuinely welcomed into the community.

If you’re interested in volunteering, or would like to find out more, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch using the following contact details:
