We bring together electric propulsion, generation, storage, solar, regeneration, monitoring and weather intelligence into one coherent system, designed around the vessel and how and where it will actually be used.

Next stop, the Falklands.

Bee Woodland, ocean advocate, pro mermaid, adventurer and Fastnet crew, heads south from Cape Town as First Mate aboard one of the most impressive expedition yachts ever built.

Antarctica lies beyond.

Fair winds ! See you in a few months 💙

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our lifesaving work in the Channel.

As a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse. This is unacceptable.

The RNLI’s people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they’ve never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.

We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.

We launched 9,058 times in 2025. Only 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel – 1.2% of our total rescue work. Anyone rescued from a small boat by the RNLI is then taken into the care of the relevant UK authorities.

To those who stand with the RNLI, thank you. For more than two hundred years, we've saved lives at sea around the UK and Ireland, and that commitment remains unchanged.

Working alongside a team like this means the challenges we face, however tough or abstract, become not only achievable, but profound.

This takes people willing to think outside the box, challenge convention and work collaboratively when there isn’t an off the shelf answer.

Great to have Adam and his electrical team alongside us doing exactly that.

First voyage, after an extensive refit.

A silent first cruise down the River Dart for this hybrid-electric Starlight 39, finally back on the water.

She's being prepared for ocean crossings and extended world cruising, where energy management, regeneration and redundancy become second nature.

This is what we like to see. Old boats, new technology, bigger adventures.

What happens when you put variable-pitch electric propulsion on a boat that really likes going fast?

When you need it, it becomes a generator!

Commissioning and sea trials on this very cool Pogo 36 was fun. Pure electric. Near-silent under power. Regenerating under sail.

Fast boats and regeneration make a very good combination when you want to skip the diesel entirely.

Is this the ultimate off-grid yacht?

Hybrid electric. Lifting keel. Solar. Regeneration. Fully self-sustaining.

Doris, a Southerly 47, has just sailed from Falmouth to Gran Canaria, ready for this year’s

Heading for the Caribbean, you might see her parked on the beach!

If she’s not the ultimate, she’s pretty close.

Back in 2020, we wanted to find out if a pure electric sailing boat could work here, on the Bristol Channel, home to the second highest tidal range in the world.

A few people told us it couldn't be done.
A few more stayed suspiciously quiet.

We knew it could.

But it needed more than swapping a diesel engine for an electric motor.

It needed a change of mindset.

How we make energy. How we store it. How we use it. And, perhaps most importantly, how we sail.

So we went and did it.

Sailing has always been about using the energy around us.

Wind got us moving. Then came solar, regeneration, storage and electric propulsion.

We've spent a long time finding out what works at sea, and what doesn't.

We'll share some of it here.
