Looking for a holiday that will really appeal to your teens? A safari has to be one of my favourite options for a family adventure.

Thinking about a ski holiday this winter? Here are some things to think about.

Escape the crowds

If the big, busy resorts aren't your thing, it's worth looking at some of the smaller Alpine villages. You might find a quieter base but that still gives you access to some great skiing.

More than just skiing

Spa time and a swim, long lunches with a view or a wander around an Alpine village. There's plenty to enjoy whether you ski or not!

A winter holiday for everyone

Skiing with teenagers, grandparents or grown-up children? Where you stay can make a big difference, especially when you want to spend time together but also have the space to do your own thing.

Some people like to have their holidays booked months ahead. Others spot a free weekend and start looking at flights. And sometimes you just need something in the diary to look forward to!

If you're looking for a family holiday that goes beyond the usual beach break, Costa Rica is definitely one to consider!

Imagine exploring rainforest waterways in search of monkeys and sloths, hiking around a volcano, zip-lining through the treetops, spotting crocodiles on a river safari, snorkelling in the Pacific and finishing with a few days on a beautiful beach. It's a destination that combines wildlife, adventure and still with time to relax too.

And there's good news when it comes to getting there! From October 2026, British Airways' direct London Heathrow to San José route will operate year-round!

5 flights a week from October 2026 to March 2027

Having two teenage daughters of my own, I know that family holidays change as the children get older. And I think this can be one of the BEST stages to travel together!

But I don't think the travel industry always gets it quite right when it comes to teenagers.

So much family travel is geared towards younger children, or assumes that once they're older they'll just fit into the same holidays as everyone else.

But teenagers have their own interests, want a bit more independence and are often ready for something a little different. And parents still need a holiday they can enjoy too!

Because this really can be one of the best stages of family travel. And I'd love to help more families discover just how good holidays with teenagers can be.

If you’re thinking about getting away over Christmas and New Year, why not do something a little different this time?

What about kitesurfing on the lagoons of Egypt, chasing waterfalls in Jamaica, swimming in Mexico’s crystal clear cenotes, exploring Kuala Lumpur’s incredible street-food scene or road tripping along South Africa’s incredible coastline.

There are some fab adventures out there for families with teens - whether you’re after action packed days, beach time or a completely different culture to explore.

There may still be time to plan something for this year, but if next Christmas and New Year is more realistic - now is a really good time to explore the options!

Thinking about your first family ski trip with teenagers?

Choosing the right resort makes a bigger difference than you might think.

You want somewhere that’s easy enough for anyone who’s still finding their ski legs but with enough going on to keep the teenagers interested once they’ve had enough of the beginner slopes!

So these are five resorts I’d look at for a first-time family ski trip:
