Something we don't talk about enough in professional yacht delivery...

We recently delivered a yacht from St Lucia to Antigua. A boat that had been sitting in the Caribbean for several months under local management before we took her on. She was being delivered to Antigua to go on a ship, to be brought back to the UK.

As a professional yacht delivery company, we carry out thorough checks before any passage. But it got us thinking about a question that affects every professional skipper and delivery company in this industry:

If contraband were found on a vessel you'd just delivered, hidden, undetectable, where does the liability actually lie? With the delivery skipper? The owner? The managing agent?

We'd be interested to hear from other skippers, delivery companies and anyone with legal or insurance expertise in the industry. How do you manage this risk?
