Weather update

The Met Office have upgraded todays weather warning to RED.

Please respect the water and stay away from the coast

08/01/2026

⚠️ RED WEATHER WARNING FOR WIND VERY SERIOUS SITUATION ⚠️

⚠️The Met Office have issued a rare RED Weather Warning for wind from 1600 until 2300 today.
This is the highest level of warning and indicates a danger to life.⚠️

Storm Goretti will bring exceptionally dangerous storm-force winds this evening, particularly across the Isles of Scilly and parts of Cornwall.

What to expect
A rapid escalation in wind strength from 30–40 mph to violent storm conditions
Peak gusts of 80–110+ mph, possibly higher in very exposed coastal and hilltop locations
Hurricane Force 12 winds for a time
The most severe conditions are expected to last 2–3 hours, before gradually easing later in the evening

Winds will remain strong overnight, with a broader yellow warning continuing into Friday morning

Coastal danger
Very large and powerful waves
Risk of debris being thrown inland
Extreme danger near cliffs, coastal roads, sea fronts, and harbours

TRAVEL WARNING: DO NOT IGNORE. It is not safe to travel during the red warning period.
Avoid driving unless absolutely essential
High risk of fallen trees, flying debris, and sudden crosswinds
Roads, bridges, ferry routes, and other transport services may be disrupted or suspended

Protect life and property If you can do so safely and before conditions worsen, secure loose items around your home:

Bins, Garden furniture, Trampolines
Tents and sheds, Fences and any loose outdoor structures

Please take this warning seriously.
Red warnings are issued only when widespread, dangerous impacts are expected, and conditions may deteriorate very quickly with little warning.

We will continue to monitor Storm Goretti closely and provide updates as the situation evolves.

Stay indoors, stay away from the coast, and stay safe.

More updates soon
