The DVSA is rolling out mandatory vehicle photographs during MOT tests across the UK as part of its ongoing efforts to improve compliance and tackle fraudulent MOT activity.

📸 Testers will be required to capture images of vehicles at the time of testing, helping to verify that tests are being carried out correctly and improving the integrity of the MOT scheme. The change will be introduced in phases before becoming a national requirement.

The DVSA has issued important guidance on aftermarket light products, including:

✔️ Vulnerable Road User (VRU) signs
✔️ Decorative LED displays and lighting
✔️ Warning beacons

While these products are often fitted with good intentions to improve safety, incorrect installation or non-compliant lighting could result in enforcement action, advisory notices, MOT failures, fines, or penalty points. Recent concerns include incorrect indicator colours and flash rates, distracting decorative displays, and the illegal use of blue warning beacons on non-emergency vehicles.

If you operate HGVs, vans, buses, or commercial vehicles, now is a good time to review any aftermarket lighting fitted to your fleet and ensure it meets current requirements.
