We at dzero.co.uk try not to get involved in politics, however as today, April 22nd, is Earth Day — it's a day to raise awareness, promote conservation, and encourage action to protect our planet.
They say real change starts locally. This image shows Chichester Harbour — a stunning landscape where thousands of people live, work, and visit each year.
It’s designated as both an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It’s also home to an incredible range of wildlife, including a colony of seals.
On the surface, it looks perfect. But the reality is very different.
As of today, there have already been 1,638 sewage overflow alerts recorded in 2026 (according to the Safer Seas and Rivers Service). That’s an average of 14.6 discharges per day.
And Chichester Harbour we know is not the only area affected...
One step we can all do is to reach out to local MPs and councillors to understand where they stand and what they can do to act; though it's also down to all of us. This needs people power. It needs voices. It needs pressure.
If we want places like Chichester Harbour and other areas to be protected — not just in name, but in reality — then we can’t afford to ignore what’s happening.
