Member News: Esteemed sailor, author and seamanship expert Tom Cunliffe will lead the Boat Building Academy's first Traditional Navigation course this November.

The five-day masterclass will equip new and experienced sailors with the practical skills and confidence to find a safe passage at sea without electronic assistance.

Drawing on more than five decades of experience, Tom will guide participants through time-honoured techniques including position fixing, course shaping and calculating tidal effects. Using paper charts based on real UK and continental locations, the course will combine practical navigation with insight into the maritime heritage behind these enduring skills.

The suite of standard agreements has undergone a comprehensive review in partnership with specialist marine law firm HFW and the British Marine Boat Retailers & Brokers Association (BRBA) Committee.

The targeted updates provide greater clarity and certainty for brokers and their clients, including refinements to provisions covering survey-related sales and vessel movements.

Combining specialist legal expertise with practical industry insight, the revised contracts reflect current legal considerations and the day-to-day realities of boat sales and brokerage transactions.

These industry-recognised documents support professional, transparent and efficient working practices – helping British Marine members conduct transactions with greater confidence.
