Our 1,600+ members come from a broad range of businesses including boat builders, chandlers, brokers, marinas, passenger boats and engines. Both in the quality of its membership services, its representation of the interests of members and the boating community alike and, most importantly, in the quality of its members. By using a British Marine member you are dealing with a company that has signed up to an extensive Code of Practice that offers consumers confidence that the service provided will be the best. Should standards be less than expected then the consumer has recourse to British marine to address the issues. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has published new guidance addressing the growing risks associated with disruption to Global Navigation Satellite Systems.

MGN 719 highlights the potential effects of GNSS jamming and spoofing and encourages vessel operators, ports, marinas, harbour authorities and marine service providers to review their reliance on satellite-derived positioning and timing information.

Recommended actions include reviewing risk assessments, identifying GNSS-dependent systems, maintaining alternative navigation skills, testing contingency arrangements and updating business continuity plans.

This is an important opportunity for marinas, boatyards, harbour operators and the wider marine industry to ensure future decisions are informed by practical experience, robust evidence and a balanced understanding of environmental and operational impacts.

Sunbury Dry Dock has reopened to passenger vessels following a sustained British Marine campaign supported by members and local MPs.

British Marine member Thames RiverCruise’s Caversham Princess has become the first passenger vessel to use the facility since its closure more than five years ago.

The reopening, under an 18-month lease between the Environment Agency and British Marine member R8 Marine, restores access to an important facility for essential vessel surveys and maintenance.

Its long-term future will depend on industry demand. Operators interested in using the dry dock are encouraged to secure their bookings and help demonstrate its continuing commercial value.
