Sometimes the restaurant comes first... and the destination follows 🥂

That's pretty much how our anniversary weekend in the Lake District happened!

We'd eaten at Rogan & Co before and loved it, and Luke had wanted to experience L'Enclume in Cartmel for years.

So this time, we planned the trip around dinner🍴(as you do!)

Fifteen courses. A wine pairing. Some incredible flavours. A few surprises. An edible pebble 🪨😅 and service that was one of the real highlights of the evening.

Within the 15 courses there was something for everyone.

We recently stayed at Borrowdale Gates in the Lake District for our anniversary, and this is definitely one that's going onto our recommendation list 👏

We'd booked an entry-level room on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.

When we arrived, we discovered we'd been upgraded to their gorgeous Garden Suite, complete with chocolate-covered strawberries waiting for us 🍓🥂

The suite opened straight onto the gardens, with beautiful views across Borrowdale and sheep casually wandering past our patio 🐑😂

Everyone was welcoming, friendly and genuinely helpful — even moving our dinner reservation when our Plan B adventure around Derwentwater took rather longer than we'd expected 😅

We love being able to recommend places we've experienced ourselves, and Borrowdale Gates is somewhere we'd happily send our clients.

Beautiful surroundings. Peaceful location. Lovely food. And most importantly, people who genuinely made us feel looked after 🧡

A month that was full to the brim with all my favourite things 🧡

50km in a day.
47 trips around the sun.
Spa days. Festival days. Long lunches. Cake and laughter.

Flowers that meant more than flowers 💐
Time with some of my favourite people.
And a few “see you soon”s along the way.

August felt big.
But mostly, it felt full ✨

📍 St Ives, Cornwall

A little bit of St Ives in three snapshots... 🌊☀️

Rooftops tumbling towards the sea.
Streets full of colour.
And a little bit of history around almost every corner.

We only had time for a quick wander through on this occasion as we had somewhere rather delicious to be... 👀🍴🇪🇸

But while we were exploring, I discovered a few things about St Ives...

🎨 Its famous light has attracted artists for generations and helped establish the town as one of Britain's best-known artistic centres.

🐟 Long before tourism, St Ives was a busy fishing port, particularly known for its pilchard industry.

🚂 And when the railway arrived in 1877, it helped open St Ives up to visitors and transform its fortunes as a seaside destination.

Pretty streets, sea views, history, beaches, art... I think we may need a longer stay next time 🧡

Sometimes (only sometimes mind you!) lunch is about much more than the food 🧡

A sunny day in Cornwall, celebrating Luke's birthday last month with Amy, James and Isla.

Good food waiting for us inside, chickens and pebbles waiting to be investigated outside, and one of those little family afternoons you wish you could bottle.

The sound of pebbles underfoot.

The gentle lapping of ridiculously clear water.

Sunshine sparkling on the sea.

And Lewis living his absolute best life. 🐕🌊

All from a little wander along the promenade before lunch.

Two of us went for a paddle.....one wasn't me. 😂

Not a bad way to work up an appetite! 🧡

One of those places we'd driven through before, but never really stopped to explore. This time we did 🧡

A working fishing port, little streets to wander, sea views, a great coffee stop ☕️ and, as it happened, a pretty spectacular birthday lunch overlooking the harbour too 🐟🥂

Sometimes you don't need a packed itinerary.

Just park up, have a wander and see what you find.
