Preparing for a Customer’s keel to be stripped back to bare metal before re-surfacing , faring and protective epoxy coatings applied.
This will all be done without blasting, however the enclosure keeps the grinding dust under control and enables us to heat the work area, and to continue working in this bloody awful weather.

Stern Gear serviced this week on this 40 year old , 30’ yacht. Hasn’t seen too much love for a few years by the look of it.
The new owner is keen to put her back into safe running condition.

Stuffing box hose replaced
New stuffing box clips
All components cleaned/painted
New coupling fixings in A4 stainless
New gland packing and grease
Propeller cleaned and painted
New shaft key
New cutlass (shaft bearing)
New anode studs
New bonding cables
New anodes all round
Engine seacock and through hull fitting replaced

It’s a really crucial part of any boat….. if it looks right….. it usually is!

Keel fixings replacement this week.
All 9 fixings were replaced n very poor condition in the bilge.
The washers had completely corroded away meaning the remaining studs and the very badly corroded nuts were not supporting the keel at all.
With our torque multiplier we were able to draw out each stud in turn, cleaning the fixing threads, and replacing with new 1” studding, washers and 2 nuts. All sealed up with a polyurethane adhesive sealant.
The fixings are now easy to check and tighten as required, and this boat is far less likely to part company with its keel or leak via the keel to hull joint

Another bow and stern duel thruster set up complete yesterday.
2 x 160KGF motors in 250mm tunnel and pods, gives the boat a huge amount of manoeuvrability.
We launched yesterday in a fair breeze, the boat was very easily berthed stern to, into her berth, even with a small mechanical engine glitch that meant we had no forward gear whatsoever. Thrusters proved their worth within minutes of launching.

This boat required the old tunnel to be completely removed due to it being fractured around the motor unit. A lot of internal structures had to be removed to allow the secure bonding and lamination of the new 250mm diameter GRP tunnel.
With a powerful new 130KGF motor and lower gearleg installed, he has now got more than enough power to manoeuvre the bow in even the windiest conditions.

We’ve been busy with lots of installation work over the last couple of months. There seems to be a flurry of customers requiring bow & Stern thruster setups fitted. Duel thrusters give total control in the most challenging mooring conditions as well as giving the owner complete confidence in single handed operation of their boat.

During the current hose use restrictions owners have been told that the use of the pontoon hoses is not permitted.
This does not apply to commercial use.
If you require your boat to be washed down during this time….. drop us a message or call and we can arrange to keep her clean either as a one off, or a regular wash down.

The dreaded wet wipe!!

An expensive mistake!!

The seacock was fitted parallel to the hull via a 90 degree elbow as there was limited space in the locker

Impossible to clear it without taking the whole assembly out and replacing it.
