A Curious View of The Beacon, Eastbourne

We took this photograph of the car park at The Beacon Centre in Eastbourne and, from this particular angle, something rather unusual catches the eye.

Look closely at the upper parking decks and it appears almost as though the structure has dipped, bent or folded slightly in the middle.

Is it simply an optical illusion created by perspective, the changing levels of the structure, or is there an architectural or engineering reason for the way it has been designed?

We would be interested to hear from anyone who knows the building — particularly anyone with an architectural, construction or engineering background.

“The Boy Jake” was on duty at one of the most famous names in British motorsport as Team JWD supported activity surrounding the Formula Student Live Finals at Silverstone, earlier this month.

The engineering competition brought together university teams and their custom-built combustion, electric, hybrid and autonomous racing cars. The vehicles were put through a series of demanding dynamic events, including endurance and sprint challenges on the National Circuit.

Behind every major event is a considerable logistics operation — moving equipment, supporting teams and ensuring everything is in the right place at the right time.
