The driver shortage in the UK hasn't gone away but the smartest operators are dealing with it differently now. πŸš›

Instead of only chasing new recruits, more and more haulage companies are investing in the drivers they already have. That means supporting Class 1 upgrades, CPC renewals, ADR qualifications building the kind of skills that make a driver more capable, more versatile, and more likely to stay for the long haul.
It makes a lot of sense. A driver who grows within a business brings experience, loyalty, and the kind of knowledge you just can't get from someone who started last week.

What a weekend in Germany! πŸ† Our sponsored Team Gabriel SS24 KTM had a cracking time at round seven of the MXGP in Teutschenthal and we're absolutely buzzing for the lads.

Gyan Doensen secured his first EMX250 podium of the season, finishing second overall with some controlled, composed riding all weekend. He's now just 23 points off third in the championship, and the momentum is building.

Oriol Oliver showed incredible determination in both MXGP motos, fighting back from difficult starts to finish 12th overall. The speed is clearly there; it's just about getting the results to match.

Next stop: Kegums, Latvia on Sunday 7th June. Let's keep it going! πŸ”₯

Some loads just don’t fit in a standard trailer - and that's exactly where we come in. πŸš›

Our Heavy Haulage service is built for the big stuff. Oversized machinery, wide loads, wind turbine components, construction equipment. If it's too big, too heavy, or too awkward for a regular wagon, we've got the vehicles, the experience, and the know-how to move it safely.

It's not just a case of loading up and going. Heavy haulage takes proper planning. Route surveys, permits, local authority coordination, es**rt vehicles, and specialist trailers. We handle all of that, so you can stay focused on the project.

We've also got HIAB crane-equipped vehicles in the fleet, which means we can load and unload on site without bringing in a separate mobile crane. Saves time, saves cost, gets the job done.

This one came straight from the team. His colleagues got together and nominated Francisco because of the way he shows up every single day with a positive attitude, great work ethic, a smile on his face, and a standard that others look to follow. That kind of recognition from the people you work alongside means everything.

And as if that wasn't enough Francisco has also just passed his Class 1 HGV qualification this month.

That's a serious achievement that takes real dedication, and we're absolutely made up for him.

Before a single load leaves our yard, there's a whole team who've already done their job. πŸ”§πŸš›

We talk a lot about our drivers, and rightly so, but today we want to say a massive thank you to the folk in our workshops around the country who keep every lorry on the road.

Denis Morrison and the maintenance team are in the garage keeping every vehicle checked, serviced, and safe before it goes anywhere. That means roadworthy trucks, fewer breakdowns, and deliveries that arrive the way they're supposed to. Aye, it's a quieter job compared to the long hauls, but it's every bit as important. Without them, nothing moves.

Something genuinely worth sharing this week. πŸš›β€οΈ

The RHA, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Mates in Mind came together just a few days ago to launch a proper HGV Driver Wellness Initiative at Rothwell Truck Stop. Drivers could get advice on mental and physical health, speak to trained mental health first aiders, and access resources in multiple languages - all aimed at making sure folk on the road feel supported, not just when things go wrong, but before they get there.

It's great to see. Life on the road is a great career, but it's not without its pressures, long hours, time away from home, and a job that keeps the country moving while often going unnoticed. The people doing it deserve real support.

At Dyce Carriers, looking after our drivers is part of who we are.
