Back in the Clyde and back with a bang with us 2 days Into our 3rd War Wreck Weekend. πŸͺ–πŸŽ–οΈπŸ’₯

The Clyde has always been a pivotal location for shipping and trade and it was just as important during war times for many reasons including hosting some of the largest training facilities in Europe for Landing Craft, X Craft Submarines, MTBs, MGBs and more.

The sites we visit may be smaller than your usual Classic Clyde Wrecks, but they remind us of the efforts given by all during those dark times, and an appreciation of the craft and engineering at that time.

Today it was the turn of the D Class Motor Torpedo Boat and the amazing "highball" bouncing bomb trail in Loch Striven. This is the only place on the planet they were tested (though never actually used during the war) with reportedly hundreds on the seabed and shore. With good Viz on both and some very happy divers.

Yesterday we dived the WW2 American Landing Craft πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ in Holy Loch and the PS Iona which was going to be used as a blockade runner during the American Civil War.

Tomorrow we inspect the Cloch Boom, and some hefty sized toepedos....reports and pics to follow

A superb few days with our friends at Ghost Fishing UK as we tackled some sites around the Isle of Arran.

Here's some of our highlights πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

πŸ‘‰πŸ‘€ A string of 26 lost pots located, marked and life counted and freed (as requested by owner). The owner can now recover his pots this weekend.
😍🫢 10 enormous Buckie pots recovered from the No Take Zone
πŸ‘‰ Survey of a lost string of pots in the bay (which had been spotted by loads of previous divers) saw zero pots located. After some digging, locals confirmed the string was recovered the week before πŸ‘Œ
πŸ•ΈοΈπŸ₯… Trawl net recovered from Brodick Bay!
🦞 1 X old lobster pot recovered from Holy Isle.

Once again the team have pulled together and done everything they can to help recover this type of gear, getting the materials out of the sea, back into use, and saving any critters that may have been caught up.

Was also fantastic to have Arran Coast out with us for a full day as they experienced what the whole process is like during the project phase. They enjoyed getting their hands (and their boat) dirty 🀣

We also had our pals from West Coast Diving on the project above and below the water..gr8 to have them across.

It's all about collaboration!

Over the last week we have been diving some of the deeper sites around the Isle of Arran. 🀿

The Starfish Enterprise welcomed 6 CCR divers and a plan to dive some of the South Clyde's lesser dived marks and also check out an unknown or 2.

The weather was much kinder to us than last week's prediction would have us believe....so fortunately we got out on all 5 days and visited 6 sites.

🚒 U33 sub - 60m
🚒 HMT Trygon - 62m
🚒 SS Saint Dunstan - 80m
🚒 Bellvue - 56m
🚒 SS Eagle - 50m
🚒 Hamilton - 70m

The Bellvue (which wasnt in our plans) turned out to be one of the dives of the week. A Steam Trawler that sunk so quickly by the stern, the stern disappeared into the seabed and left the mid to fore sections including in tact bow sitting up at a 45° angle....only supported by what lies beneath the seabed 🀯🀯🀯 Divers reporting that it was like the Rhondo wreck...without the rock she lies up against, and much more to see.

2 x unknown marks were examined on sonar with 1 deemed not a wreck, the other looked interesting in 50m, worth going back for a look another time.

Thanks to the group for coming along and being super flexible with weather windows at all hours..was a grand week indeed.

Next we welcome Ghost Fishing UK to Arran for some survey and recover of lost fishing gear before returning to the Holy Loch midweek.

Today another new one for us. 56m down the Steam Trawler believed to be the Bellvue. 🀿🚒🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🌞

What a stunning day we've had on Arran with Chester Sub-Aqua Club

Day 3 of our 5 day charter brought the sort of weather we have become used to on Arran....and it delivered the goods.

We had a lovely dive at Roraima Reef (2nd day in a row as tide turned an hour early yesterday) followed by a drift on the SE corner of Holy Isle.

A day off tomorrow to allow everyone to explore this amazing island then back to it Thursday and maybe a first ever dive on an unknown site....who knows. ⁉️
