Collars Mast and Oars 80 Years of hand crafting wooden oars and masts Collars have been in the business of providing rowers and sailors with specialist equipment for over 75 years.

From our beginnings in a Thameside boathouse in 1930's Oxford, making sculls for the colleges, to our present involvement with large international yacht projects, the name Collars speaks of quality and tradition.

Woodworker Position
Collar Masts and Oars have been suppliers to the marine industry for over 90 years, producing the finest quality timber yacht masts and rowing oars. Based in Dorchester on Thames we are looking to recruit a craftsman with a passion for working with timber, to join our small team of skilled craftsmen. .

This could be an ideal role for someone who has completed a vocational course in carpentry and joinery or has an aptitude for working with traditional tools and wants to develop their craftsmanship, whilst working to tight commercial deadlines.

Specialist training will be provided, but a good understanding of timber and wood working tools is essential. A good level of English and Maths is needed to interpret plans and technical drawings.

This is a physically demanding, but rewarding role and applicants must be hard working and willing to learn. You will need to complete projects to a high standard, meet deadlines, use your initiative and prioritise your own workload, as well as work well in a team.

Training will be given in all workshop procedures and disciplines.

We are based near Dorchester-on-Thames. Hours 7.30am – 3.45pm Monday to Friday. Salary will reflect experience,

We are looking for a woodworker, with a passion for timber, to join our small team of skilled craftsmen specialising in the manufacture of bespoke timber products for the marine and architectural sectors.

You must be able to work in a physically demanding role, be able to accurately interpret drawings, want achieve high standards, work to deadlines and be an energetic and enthusiastic team player, contributing to the smooth running of the workshop.

Specialist training will be provided, but a good understanding of timber and wood working tools would be an advantage, although not essential. A willingness to follow instructions and be part of a team is important.

This is a full time position working 40 hours a week in a workshop environment in South Oxfordshire. Pay negotiable, depending on experience.

Competent woodworker/craftsman needed for busy specialist workshop in South Oxfordshire.

Must be keen to learn new skills within the trade, work well in a team, use initiative and be prepared to muck in when necessary. Specialist training will be given but a good understanding of timber and being able to work off technical drawings is needed.

Applicants must be hard working and committed to achieving high standards in a physically demanding but rewarding role.

We are also looking for a trainee workshop assistant.

WORKSHOP JUNIOR REQUIRED

We are creating a new position in our workshops for a junior team member to come and ‘learn the ropes’. This is a unique opportunity to gain a wide and varied set of skills that will support our busy team of craftsmen, making high quality, timber marine and architectural products.

This will be a physically demanding role and applicants must be hard working and willing start at the bottom. Your success will be based on your commitment and determination to develop over time and become a valued part of a close-knit team.

Due to a very full order book, your initial main tasks will be helping with sanding and preparing our masts, oars and spars ready for varnishing, packing items for transporting and being that extra pair of hands to help the team. Training will be given in all workshop procedures and disciplines as required.

Immediate start after Christmas for the right applicant. We are based near Dorchester-on-Thames. Hours 7.30am – 3.45pm. Pay to be discussed.
