An update from Ros Jones and dmbc
Following the closure of our airport by The Peel Group, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is undertaking a consultation with stakeholders which could ultimately result in removal of the controlled airspace structure associated with DSA. This risks undermining our plans to re-open DSA and secure new investment in the airport.
Doncaster Council is engaging with the regulatory bodies, and yesterday I sent a letter that has been co-signed by the Mayor of South Yorkshire and Doncaster MPs.
We are asking that the controlled airspace designations associated with DSA while it was operational be temporarily suspended for a period of 12 months, rather than subjected to a permanent change procedure when the future of the airfield is not settled.
Doncaster Sheffield Airport can and should be a success! That is why we are doing all we can to see our airport reopen.
I am seeking cross party political, public and business support to ensure that the case is pressed with the CAA to ensure we don’t lose the airspace permanently that is currently suspended. This is important to the future of DSA and I believe with a united front we can urge that the current airspace designations are not lost. It is one less hurdle for a new airport operator to have to negotiate and would enable the airport to re-establish itself more quickly.
