A great team content day today!

We’ve been busy getting plenty of new content filmed, from introducing some of the newest faces in the Maya team to upcoming courses, rail careers and more.

Need to renew your OLEC 2 competence?

OLEC 2 needs to be renewed every two years from your initial training.

Our one-day recertification course is for existing OLEC 2 and OLEC 3 holders, going back over the underpinning knowledge needed to keep your OLEC 2 valid.

We’ve currently got two open dates at our Doncaster Training Centre:

…The London Underground first opened in 1863, making it the world’s first underground railway.

And it was very different to the Underground we know today, the first services were actually steam-powered.

More than 160 years later, it’s still one of the most recognisable railway networks in the world.

There’s always something new to learn in rail.

If you’re just starting out, there’s obviously loads to take in and plenty to learn along the way.

If you’ve been in the industry a while, it might be picking up a new skill, adding another competence or learning something that helps you take that next step.

And sometimes it’s simply about keeping what you already know up to date, including refresher or recertification training where it’s required.

Whatever stage you’re at, there’s usually something useful you can take away from good training and put into practice back out on the railway.

How drought affects railways…

After weeks with barely any rain, we’ve finally had a bit over the last few days.

But a few wet days don’t instantly undo weeks of dry weather.

Once the ground has dried out and moved, it can take time to settle again. If the track above has been affected, it may still need monitoring, repairs or temporary speed restrictions in the meantime.

So even though the rain is back, the effects of the drought can stick around for a little while longer.

If you could give someone starting out in rail ONE piece of advice, what would it be?

We’ve all got something we wish we’d known when we first started.

Maybe it’s something that made the job easier, something somebody taught you along the way, or something you had to learn the hard way.

Always great to hear feedback like this! 👏

Aiden McGloin from Network Rail 🛤 recently completed two training courses with us, and there was one thing in his feedback that we really liked…confidence.

It might not be the obvious thing you think about with training, but it makes a massive difference.

It’s not just about remembering what you’ve been told. It’s getting to that “Ahhh, so that’s why we do it that way” point. When you understand the why as well as the how, you’re much more confident putting it into practice and in rail, that understanding plays a big part in doing the job safely.

That’s what good training should give you, not just knowledge, but the confidence to use it.
