A very busy Bank Holiday here, 2 boats dry docked and being washed off, NB Blue Lady in for a couple of remedial jobs, more works and welding on Norway and further electrical installation works on a customer fit out...... someone pass me a coffee it's only 1130!!!

Emily is just outside our yard and does the most amazing cakes, on a sunny day what is better than coffee and cake!!!

Today I tried to advertise on the local spotted sites around Langley Mill but they were declined unfortunately 😪
As this isn't my usual area, I rely on local social media pages to spread the word.
When you've spent the time making a post for it to be declined, it's a bit deflating (there are other businesses being advertised).
If you know anyone around this area, please helped spread the word and share my last post with them 🙏😊

Out of office is on and the office is now closed for the festive season! Merry Xmas to all our friends, customers and followers, may the food be plentiful, drink free flowing and hangovers minimal! we thank you all for your support over the past 12 months and hope to see you all in 2025, when who knows, we might even have a boat to launch.......

one year on we remember the unprecedented damage Storm Babet caused to the Langley Mill area, and all the affected properties in the area surrounding the River Erewash, Erewash Canal and Beauvale Brook. Levels peaked at around 7ft above mean water level adjacent to the boatyard causing flooding which has never been seen. we are extremely fortunate to have an absolutely amazing bunch of moorers who all rallied round to help each other and us, protect the boats, cars and workshops. We have only just completed the storm damage repairs but without their help it could have been a lot worse. Seeing the businesses around the area bounce back, where they could, with help from so many trades and general public helping has been great. What an amazing place to be, which gets bad press sometimes but this showed it at its best.

please be advised, Canal and River Trust have just released an email notifying of low water levels on the Erewash, for which a screenshot is below. in other unrelated news, there is also a photo of the current state of the feeder from moorgreen reservoir.

we are very pleased to announce we have been successful in our bid to the environment agency to provide an alternative route through the Erewash Valley to join the Cromford Canal sections back together again. This involves locking down in to the River Erewash from our moorings and canalising it all the way to Jacksdale. we look forward to having these works completed very soon and having the ability to create a very small canal ring of approximately 6 miles and are in discussion with go boat to provide several craft for daily hire.

Langley Mill Boatyard is currently flooded due to the unprecedented rainfall from Storm Babet. we have been hit by both a rise in the river Erewash and the feeder from Moorgreen Reservoir which has peaked at 6ft higher on the aqueduct wall. All moorers boats are safe, and we thank the local boating community for stepping in and helping out where necessary. We have never seen this level of flooding at the yard in 40 years, the canal topped its banks and continued to flood Langley Mill where it met up with the river flood waters. At present the footpath adjacent to us is under significant levels of water, which a strong current, and therefore unsafe to walk along. We hope within the next 24 to 36 hours to see levels return to normal and the cleanup can begin for both us and the other local businesses who have also been badly hit.

After a great few days we have finally laid a baseplate for our newbuild, based on the former Anderton Motor 'Norway'. These boats have excellent lines, and are barrel sided so cut through the water beautifully. She will be on view at the forthcoming Erewash Canal Preservation and Development Association rally at the end of May. It has taken 5 years on and off from collecting a pile of ironwork to recreating the hull shape.
