Rail Operations Group was proud to support the Railway Benefit Fund by auctioning a cab ride in one of our Class 37 loco.
Last week, the winning bidder, Martin Watts, enjoyed his fantastic ride on 37884 loco during one of our TfW services between Cardiff and Holyhead.
A huge thank you to Martin for taking part in the auction and helping to support railway people and their families through difficult times.

🚂 Over £40,000 raised- we are absolutely blown away.
Thank you doesn't feel like enough, but from all of us: thank you🙏🏽

Every single bid on our Auction of Rail Experiences goes towards supporting railway people and their families through hard times, and this year you smashed it.

To the organisations from the UK rail industry who donated an experience, you gave more than a prize. You gave hope, generosity, and a real show of what the Railway Family is all about. We salute you.

And honestly, every experience on offer was brilliant. Any railfan would have been thrilled to win a single one of them, and you won them all.

Rail Operations Group 93001 'Armed Forces Covenant' hauls WMR EMU 730008 through Derby station, from Soho L.M.D. to Gascoigne Wood Sidings, on Thursday 17th September 2026.
The picture captures two very different eras of railway history side by side - the historic former Midland Railway buildings, dating back to the 1800s, alongside the modern Class 93 locomotive.

We are seeking a motivated and safety focused Shunter / Depot Driver who can also provide cover and support within our Control team when required.

🚆 Position: Shunter / Depot Driver & Control Relief
💼 Job Type: Permanent Full Time - Rostered position
📍 Location: Field Based/Derby

What you'll be doing:

▪️ Moving and positioning locomotives and rolling stock safely around depot facilities
▪️Preparing locos and carrying out routine checks
▪️Supporting the Rail Operations Control team during periods of absence, leave and peak demand
▪️Working as part of a professional team to maintain the safe and efficient operation of our rail services

What we're looking for:

▪️Previous rail industry experience preferred
▪️Knowledge of shunting and depot operations
▪️Strong communication and organisational skills
▪️Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
▪️Flexible approach and willingness to learn new skills
▪️Safety-conscious with excellent attention to detail
▪️Competent IT skills and ability to work with operational systems
