The penultimate stop in our 'One River Eight Destinations' campaign is Kingswear.

On the opposite bank of the River Dart from Dartmouth, Kingswear is a vibrant small community, known for its colourful houses nestled on the hillside and its steam train, which departs from Kingswear station to Paignton, its nostalgic whistle reverberating across the water.

With shops, pubs, regular passenger and car ferries, plus a chandlery at Darthaven Marina on the Kingswear side, there is something for all our leisure visitors.

For visiting vessels there are visitor moorings on Deep Water Pontoon at Kingswear, with a yacht taxi to the shore.

Dinghies can land at Kingswear Dinghy Rack or Darthaven and small boats can launch from Waterhead Creek or Collin's Quay slipway.

Come on over and kick back in Kingswear!

We have had a very exciting morning!

Here is a sneak preview 'behind the scenes' of the official launch of the pontoon we have constructed, alongside contractors Walcon Marine, at the Britannia Royal Naval College's Sandquay facility, to support their Naval Officer Cadet training.

Lots of interviews, pictures, camera and microphone action and even a ribbon cutting!

Make sure to watch our Harbour Master in action on our local South West TV news channels this evening for the coverage!

We will, of course, share it with you all when it's available!

Our River Team were busy installing some additional buoy moorings in the mainstream yesterday, to accommodate some exciting vessel bookings.

Our crane barge Hercules made easy work of the heavy lifting and there are now some clean floating buoys - you can't miss them as they're bright yellow!

It's a very efficient system - our mooring configuration can change very quickly depending on which size vessels are coming in to the harbour, so be reassured we can adjust our berths to welcome you!

And Phoebe, our EV water taxi, did a quick float past - purely to check out the progress being made!

There's always lots of negative press on bathing water quality, so let's shout about the good stuff. The bathing water testing season has started, and the Environment Agency's official results show EXCELLENT water quality levels for Stoke Gabriel, Dittisham, Dartmouth, and Castle Cove. Totnes still has poor quality water in the river, but is approaching the sufficient level. https://environment.data.gov.uk/bwq/profiles/ has all the data.

We take pride in our working partnership with Britannia Royal Naval College and have accommodated their Vahana work boats on Town Jetty, ensuring they have a safe and useful berth when used for training.

However, in exciting news, the Sea Class 15 work boats, used by Officer cadets for exercises, will very soon be moving to the new pontoon we have created for the Royal Navy at Sandquay!

Watch this space for coverage of the grand pontoon opening soon!

South of France? Port Adriano? Monaco? Portofino?

No - pure Devon!

The River Dart has been looking incredible recently - a bustling harbour, busy passenger ferries, a special visit from PS Waverley and a swim zone full of laughter - what a half-term it has been!

Here's to many more days, weeks and months like this!

29/05/2026

It's safe to say our river team are adept at turning their hands, and rudders, to all and everything!

Here they are in action, safely guiding PS Waverley and her passengers through a very busy harbour on Bank Holiday weekend, working alongside Waverley's crew who were operating her steam-powered windlass at the bow and the capstan aft.

From helping her turn in Maypool, delivering our pilot so he could assist the Captain in navigating the waters and deftly dealing with rope securing at the pontoon, they displayed all their maritime expertise!

Waverley needed assistance from our team in turning as her main crankshaft is solidly attached to both paddle wheels so they cannot turn independently of each other, meaning she can't turn in a small area unassisted.

Considering our team doesn't deal with rare and huge paddle steamers every day, they made it look like a faultless and very smooth operation. Impressive work everyone!

It is vital to make the water accessible for all so it was great to see Silver Halo Charters using our disabled access hoist at the weekend.

Our two easy access pontoons are bookable for vessels between 3-25m and the hoist on the pontoon can be used in conjunction with the ramped access or simply for the lower freeboard of the pontoon - please contact us in advance so we can give guidance on its use.

Come along for a few hours or a few days - you can even make it months! We have visitor moorings available if you're simply popping around from Torbay or Salcombe.

Come and explore all the River Dart, and its eight destinations, has to offer!
