Dartmouth Castle Ferry

Dartmouth Castle Ferry A return ferry service from Dartmouth town centre to the historical Dartmouth Castle, local beaches and The South West coast path.

This beautiful estuary can be best appreciated from a boat, during your boat ride you pass the tug driven lower car ferries, the ancient Bayards cove with its quay and fort, waterfront houses that once were warehouses and boatbuilding yards. There is an abundance of wildlife to look out for, sea birds, jumping fish and even the odd seal. Dartmouth Castle as we see it today has stood since the late

15th century, however, fortifications have been on this site far longer. Visiting the castle gives an historical insite into The Dart and the Town of Dartmouth, its people, shipping and even piracy! Dartmouth Castle was the first to be designed and built with artilliary in mind as opposed to the more ancient weapons such as the bow. Castle Tea room offer a wide selection of fare to either eat in or take away. The local bathing coves, Castle cove at the base of the castle, and Sugary cove, a short walk away from the castle, are lovely for sitting and watching the Bay or for going for a swim. The trip to Dartmouth castle takes approximately 10 minutes with boats continually running from the South Embankement, adjacent to the Hospital, to The Castle, landing at Stumpy steps. Stumpy steps are just a short, picturesque walk to The Castle, Castle Tea room, Bathing coves and picnic areas. From here the South West coast path can be joined to take you onto Stoke Fleming and beyond.
