We started the day by bringing customers home from their coach holidays, followed by a few airport transfers—nothing out of the ordinary!

We had a lovely little plan in place. Our final coach collection took us to Sunderland for 11:30pm, and our returning flight into Newcastle International Airport was supposedly landing at around 11:55pm.

However, as a professional service, we never simply take anyone’s word for it—we check and then check again. We always monitor the flight and confirm when it has taken off, because that gives us the most accurate arrival time.

It’s a good job we did, because the flight was actually landing at 1am! 🤣

Luckily, it worked out perfectly. We collected the returning family from Newcastle international , drove them safely home to Darlington, and then went straight across to collect another couple—regular travellers of ours—for their early-morning journey to Leeds Bradford Airport.

Last week, we had the distinct privilege of looking after Lord Baker and a group of guests, including ministers and MPs, visiting for a celebration at UTC in Newton Aycliffe.

And how did they find us? A search for **“minibus Darlington”** brought them to Harry’s Taxi! 🚖

I wasn’t entirely sure what UTC was all about, so I asked Lord Baker. He explained how it brings education and practical learning together, giving young people hands-on experience and helping prepare them for the workplace.

That really struck a chord with me. **I’m a doer—I learn by getting stuck in.** Thinking about it, I wish I’d had an opportunity like that when I was younger.

Hearing about the network of campuses across the country and their work with employers in different sectors, it made perfect sense. Giving young people the chance to put their learning into practice could make a real difference to their future.

One of our guests told me that a former student had gone on to work in government in a specialist role. Now that’s an achievement! 👏

A lovely group to look after, an interesting conversation and another proud moment for our little Darlington business.

Once upon a time, I was a driver for one of Darlington’s biggest private-hire firms.

One of its directors told me I wasn’t a good taxi driver and that I had no future in the industry. I stood up for myself, and ultimately, that cost me my job—but I refused to allow myself to become a victim.

I stayed in the trade. During Covid, I took a huge risk and bought my first car. I drove around Darlington in a fully branded vehicle, determined to build something of my own.

When Uber arrived, I saw an opportunity to create a professional, independent taxi company—and that was when Harry’s Taxi was born.

I promised myself that we would do things differently. We would be honest, transparent, reassuring and, above all, on time. Sometimes we would make decisions that might not make perfect business sense, simply because they were the right decisions for our customers.

I built this company from the ground up. I didn’t sit inside an established private-hire firm, use its reputation and then claim its success as my own.

I started with nothing.

Harry’s Taxi wasn’t handed to me. It was built through risk, hard work, honesty and determination—and I’m incredibly proud of what it has become.

But I didn’t just build Harry’s Taxi. Along the way, I’ve also helped other people build and grow their own companies, sharing my experience, knowledge and support to help them succeed.

Before Harry’s Taxi was established, how many taxi companies did you actually know?

How many had you used regularly?
How many did you genuinely trust?

Today, a new name can appear on Google almost overnight. A professional-looking profile and a couple of what look to be real reviews may create the impression of an established company—but a Google listing alone does not prove that a business is experienced, accountable or genuinely local.

Before booking, ask:

• How long has the company genuinely been operating?
• Are its drivers and vehicles properly licensed?
• Does it have a real, consistent history in the community?
• Do the reviews appear natural and come from genuine customers?
• If something goes wrong, is there a recognisable person who will take responsibility?

What a whirlwind couple of days it’s been for the team—early mornings, late nights and plenty of miles covered!

We have a huge amount of account work coming in as we continue developing these relationships and strengthening our commitment to delivering a dependable service.

Most journeys go without any drama, but tonight’s coach, which was due to arrive at 10:50pm, was delayed by four hours and didn’t arrive until 2:50am! It turns out it’s not only planes that suffer delays—coaches do too!

It was nobody’s fault; a breakdown in the euro tunnel from a car caused everything behind it to become backed up.

As it was so late and the passengers were a little elderly, I felt the right thing to do was take them directly to their doors at no additional charge. After such a long journey, their comfort, safety and peace of mind mattered far more.

Sometimes, good service means doing that little bit extra—especially when people need it most.

🚕 Busy, busy day today—as you’ve probably already seen!

Earlier tonight, we collected Katie and the girls from Newcastle Airport before taking another family there early this morning. As I made my way home, Dan was already out in the minibus, taking another family to Newcastle International Airport. ✈️

Between now and the end of the month, we have close to 100 airport transfers booked—and an incredible 76 of them are Newcastle! That’s phenomenal.

This level of work shows that we’re building Harry’s Taxi the right way: earning reviews legitimately, creating a trusted local brand from the grassroots up and growing steadily over the years while learning every lesson along the way.
