✈️ TRAVEL TIP THURSDAY

When you're paying by card abroad, you'll often be asked whether you'd like to pay in pounds or the local currency.

It might seem like choosing pounds is the easier option, but it isn't always the cheapest. In many cases, paying in the local currency allows your own card provider to apply the exchange rate, which can work out better.

It's one of those little details that can help you make the most of your travel budget.

✨ WANDERING WEDNESDAY ✨

What if one of India’s most overlooked cities became the one that surprised you most?

The first time I travelled to Bangalore, I fell in love with it—and it has held a very special place in my heart ever since.

Officially known as Bengaluru, it is a city of contrasts. It is India’s technology capital, where modern offices and global innovation sit alongside colourful temples, traditional markets and everyday life unfolding on every street.

And then there is the traffic! Busy, noisy and seemingly moving in every direction at once—it is all part of the unmistakable rhythm of the city.

Driving in India requires three things:

Good brakes—for stopping when the unexpected appears.
A good horn—to make sure everyone knows you’re there.
And good luck—because sometimes, you may need a little of that too!

Once you experience Bangalore’s roads, you understand exactly what they mean—because it is so, so true!

Bangalore is also surprisingly green. Tree-lined streets, leafy neighbourhoods and peaceful spaces such as Cubbon Park and Lalbagh Botanical Garden allow you to pause, breathe and watch the city go by.

Then there is Commercial Street—lively, vibrant, colourful and filled with clothing, fabrics, jewellery, shoes and gifts. It is also where I bought my very first sari, making it an especially meaningful part of Bangalore for me.

But what captured my heart most wasn’t a building, a park or anything I bought.

It was the people.

Their warmth, friendliness and genuine kindness made me feel incredibly welcome. People were generous with their time, grateful for the smallest gestures and always ready to share a smile or a conversation.

Bangalore may not be the first place people imagine when they think of India—but perhaps that is exactly why it deserves to be discovered.

For me, it isn’t simply somewhere I visited. It is somewhere I connected with, somewhere that felt like home and somewhere I will always remember with enormous affection. 🩵
