π¨ UPDATE: Lufthansa has confirmed that several of its employees sustained injuries during the nose landing gear collapse of one of its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners at Frankfurt Airport earlier today, Thursday, June 4, 2026.
In a statement provided to Bloomberg, the German flag carrier said that at the time of the collapse, crew members and ground staff were on board the aircraft, while passengers had not yet boarded.
"Several employees sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention," Lufthansa told Bloomberg. "We are currently investigating the exact circumstances in cooperation with the relevant authorities."
The aircraft involved is registered D-ABPQ and named "Herne" after the German city. It is one of Lufthansa's newest 787-9s, built only last year and entered into long-haul service in February 2026.
It is not yet clear whether the failure was due to human error or a possible mechanical defect.
The aircraft had been scheduled to operate flight LH450 from Frankfurt to Los Angeles today. That flight has been canceled.
