Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced £1m of capital funding for community transport providers.

The funding will enable each of the 13 providers in the north to purchase a new minibus as they work towards replacing their ageing fleet.

The Minister made the announcement as Community Transport Week 2026 gets underway.

She said:

“Community transport can often be the only transport option for many and it is vital that providers have a reliable fleet of vehicles to allow these services to be delivered safely and efficiently. This £1m funding will allow each of our 13 providers to procure a new vehicle so they can continue to provide vital services for those who need them most. Without these services, many elderly and disabled people who rely on them would find it difficult to access goods and services and remain connected to family and friends.”

Minister continued:

“People must be at the heart of everything we do and Community transport services are a valuable life-line for many in our local communities in supporting some of our most vulnerable to maintain their independence.”

My Experience of using the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service’ Patient Care Service (PCS)

The Public Health Agency's 10,000 MORE Voices initiative, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), is inviting people across Northern Ireland to share their experiences of using the Patient Care Service (PCS).

What is the Patient Care Service (PCS)?

The Patient Care Service provides non-emergency patient transport for individuals who require assistance travelling to and from healthcare appointments, including outpatient clinics, treatments, diagnostic appointments and other healthcare services.
Why are we seeking feedback?

We want to better understand the experiences of patients, carers and families who use the Patient Care Service, including:
• Booking and arranging transport
• Communication with the service
• Experiences during journeys
• Accessibility and support requirements
• Timeliness and reliability
• Overall satisfaction with the service

The feedback gathered will help inform future service improvements and support NIAS in ensuring the Patient Care Service continues to meet the needs of those who rely on it.

Who should take part?
We are particularly keen to hear from:
• Current and recent users of the Patient Care Service
• Family members and carers
• Older people
• People living with disabilities
• Individuals living with long-term health conditions
• People living in rural communities
• Communities who may experience barriers to accessing healthcare services
