Walk from the campsite to Hognaston.Took about an hour to get there, but that involved a lot of stopping to admire stuff...

Walk from the campsite to Hognaston.

Took about an hour to get there, but that involved a lot of stopping to admire stuff . .. . and trying very had to get photos of blue / lilac moths / butterflies to try and work out what they were! . .. (failed)!

A lot of the walk is on Seven trent land and includes a lot of fields planted with trees, one chosen by each member of Seven trent water staff.

The village itself is pretty and has a sign listing all of the historic village buildings.

While visiting we met the man who regularly calls in to wind the clock up.

Good morning from glorious Derbyshire.

The photos were taken while the sun was behind the trees, the pitch is now in full sun and it is hot.

Breakfast cooked on electric: Microwave for beans and tomatoes Airfryer for meat Vango scran griddle for the rest

Last photo is yesterday's breakfast, scrambled eggs with mushrooms and tomatoes, on home made bread.

I'm not walking all the way round the reservoir, why would I want to walk all the way round the reservoir, I just fancy having a quick look to assess the area and we can do a proper walk tomorrow . . . ... and other such statements were made by me before we set of for a short walk today. .. .
.. well there was stuff of interest and so before we knew it we had walked 6 and a bit miles, I only mention this because I looked up how far to go all the way round and it is about 7.5 miles.

We basically went half way round and walked back . . . might as well have gone round!

Lots to see, including lots of waterfowl, and an easy flat walk . . .. only hill is the slope into the campsite.

Spent a bit of time wondering how you would get from your boat to the thing on top of the tower, as there are no steps or ladders, etc.

Then, a bit further round the reservoir, we found a sign.

Turns out it is accessed via a tunnel from the buildings in the later photos, that are a long way down from a wide dam and across a road. Must be a very long tunnel.

Usually surrounded by water, but the reservoir is very low.

Apparently, they were going to make it the centre piece of the land that comes out from the visitor centre, but they found the Anglo Saxons had also used it and so they were worried it would be plagued by treasure hunters. Instead there is a modern lump with stones on that is accessible and this is down a path and, usually, surrounded by water.
