The Green Cow is a small, family run farm that has been active for almost 25 years! With three decades of farming experience behind us, The Green Cow began to focus on a greener, more '21st Century' way of farming back in 1998. Since then, we have worked hard to make life easier not only for us, but for our cattle and pigs, providing them with a much healthier diet compared to a standard, mass pro
duction farm. We pride ourselves on being an eco friendly farm that delivers high quality beef and pork hampers for local customers, as well as high quality restaurants and butchers. Our livestock is our priority! We at The Green Cow take pride in our livestock and work hard to make sure both our cattle and pigs are well fed, sheltered and in a healthy environment. Our cattle are fed on grass from the fields surrounding the farm and a seaweed concentrate; again, all completely natural. We provide and maintain a healthy diet for our cattle, allowing our livestock to live a natural, happy, healthy life. This is low intensity farming; Farming done right. The 'Green' in The Green Cow
The Green Cow is always looking for ways to make farming, as a whole, more sustainable and eco friendly. We have worked effortlessly toward this goal, making lots a small changes throughout the operation, to achieve that goal. As mentioned above, all cattle on the farm are fed a natural diet of grass and seaweed concentrate. On the surface, this may seem like a subtle change in diet, but the results prove to be positive; with an 80% decrease in methane emissions from our cattle here at The Green Cow! To add to this, we also source local businesses such as our primary butcher and abattoir, which means shorter transportation distances to and from the farm, minimising vehicle usage. In addition to this, The Green Cow and our butcher operate largely on energy provided by solar panels on our facilities! From the beginning, to the end. As The Green Cow is a small farm, it is largely operated by our family... with a little help from some friends. Work done on the farm is done by Andrew, his family and local help. The cattle are hand reared, fed and looked after daily, ensuring a great quality of life for the cattle and pigs on the farm. When it is time, the cattle are humanely put down and the process of preparing our beef and pork begins. With an artisan butcher to prepare and cut the meat, our beef is prepared by hand and sent back to the farm. Our in-house process then begins. Our farm now has systems in place to prepare burgers, sausage and other hand seasoned/flavoured choices. Our products are then vacuum sealed and chilled in our refrigeration room, providing a long shelf life and irresistible tender taste!
