So folks - we’re officially in the “ber” months, terms are due to start for school and colleges this week and it’s back to routine for many of us after the long summer holidays.

The weeks are really starting to speed by as the nights get shorter, it’s lovely to look back at some of the images from this years incredible show - the people, sights, sounds and atmosphere that’s unique to Chipping Steam Fair.

Although we’ve not posted much online recently, we’ve not been still! Many of our team have been out and about both visiting and exhibiting at shows such as Masham, Fylde, Flookburgh and Great Yorkshire. Unbelievably, ring and beer tent entertainment are all booked and confirmed for 2027 - we have a couple of surprises lined up but no spoilers yet!

Our presentation evening is coming up and this is always a highlight in our diaries. It’s a lovely opportunity to see how Chipping Steam Fair donations make a difference to local community groups and organisations - many of who volunteer with us over the weekend. Looking forward to bringing you all the details from that very soon.

Wow! July already……..and what a fabulous few weeks we’ve had with lots of sunshine - summer is officially upon us. We were so fortunate this year to have such a cracker of a weekend for the show, it was glorious!

We’re absolutely delighted to say that the trophies are now back from the engravers so those who, very deservedly, won some silverware - we will get your award to you very shortly. Socials will only allow 10 photos at a time so we can’t show everyone in this post, but to the trophy custodians for 2026 - huge congratulations!

Judging gets increasing challenging every year as the standard of the exhibits is just incredible; and it just keeps getting better! It’s been fantastic to see so many younger exhibitors be presented with awards, they really are the future of Chipping Steam Fair.

It’s nearly four weeks after the extravaganza that was Chipping Steam Fair 2026 - the time has gone so fast! Unbelievably, we’re already planning for next year with various bookings made and confirmed - no spoilers yet but we’re sure you’ll really enjoy them!

As you know, we have a media team who bring you photos and updates, they can usually be found running round during the show trying to capture the atmosphere and highlights of each day from the catering tent, arena and exhibitor areas as well as trophy presentations.

Obviously we can’t be everyone at once, so you may have seen the posters around the site on show weekend with a QR code to share your images with us. It’s reattached if you couldn’t get signal on the field - simply scan the code, ensuring you enter your name, we’d absolutely love to see them and of course you’ll be given full credit for any photos used.

Today’s photos are from Danny Dicks - thank you so much! 📸🎞️

International Volunteering Week 1st - 7th June 2026 Day 7 - The next generation

Chipping Steam Fair celebrated its 26th year this time round, and since its beginnings in 1998, we’re incredibly blessed to have the children and grandchildren of families now volunteering and/or exhibiting. In the case of two of our families, one has four generations all involved in the show, and another this year had four generations present on site which is just incredible

Since 2022, the Chairman’s trophy for “Young Volunteer” has been awarded to very deserving winners who have shown maturity beyond their years and hopefully these youngsters will be integral to the continuation of the show in the future. We don’t have pictures of all of the young people, but that doesn’t mean we are not immensely proud of every single one of them.

It’s so lovely to see the interest in something different to the norm and being a part of Chipping Steam Fair. The enthusiasm, energy and sheer joy the younger ones bring is just fabulous. By the end of each day of the show, they may be hot, sweaty, maybe a bit muddy and definitely tired but they absolutely love it.

THANK YOU to all our Young Volunteers. You’re all outstanding!

International Volunteering Week 1st - 7th June 2026 Day 6

Today’s spotlight for International Volunteering Week - Committee and Working party team.

The committee, a group of dedicated individuals who meet to discuss ideas, make decisions and bring suggestions regarding the show to ensure everyone has a great visit. As previously mentioned, many are exhibitors themselves so are very knowledgeable about their sections.

At the helm as Chairman for the past 6 years is Mark, who oversees the operational side of the show. He’s been involved for over 15 years having previously been committee secretary.
Our fabulous treasurer is Tracey who, having taken on the role from mother-in-law Winefride, ensures all the bills are paid, all the accounts balance, cross checking receipts and the massive task of online banking.

We absolutely cannot forget the working group who put in hours and hours of work all year round on the field. They have a huge range of skills between them and will build, paint, repair, do groundworks, drive miles putting up signage, mark out sections, install the remembrance poppies around the village and will tackle any jobs that need doing.

Starting from the weekend before the show, three members of the team, Martyn, Hoppy and Stuart, will take leave from their full time jobs to be onsite for set up of the show when the marquee/deliveries arrive, installing the PA, and doing all the tasks that just seem to magically happen but in reality it’s down to sheer hard graft.

THANK YOU to all our Committee and Working Party. You’re simply the best!

International Volunteering Week 1st - 7th June 2026 Day 5 - Show services

Here at Chipping Steam Fair, we are hugely privileged to have unsung heroes who work incredibly hard over the weekend and definitely deserve a well-deserved shoutout.

Today, we are going to focus on Show Services.

Janitorial team. The unenviable task of ensuring all the toilet blocks are kept clean and tidy, replacing toilet rolls, packs of paper hand towels and letting us know if there’s any problems. It may not be the most glamorous job, but definitely appreciated by everyone. The team themselves seemed to be camera shy dodging our photographer, so instead, we’ve got one of the team bringing the facilities onsite.

Refuse collection. Many of you will have noticed the little blue tractor chugging around site emptying the many rubbish barrels ensuring the site is clear of litter. This year, it was the turn of Super Steve who did a wonderful job over the weekend - he always had a smile on his face and his lap of honour on the Monday was just epic 😂.
We can’t not also show appreciation for the amazing Izzi and her son, who also walked round site with a grabber picking up anything that was missed.

Parking and gates. We would definitely be lost without these teams. The team on the car parks are just incredible guiding visitor vehicles onsite ensuring that cars are lined up to maximise the space available. Those on the gates ensure everyone knows where they should be and assist at the end of the day when visitors and exhibitors are exiting site.

Those who book arena attractions, marquee entertainment and look after the PA and sound desk. An essential part of the show for a great atmosphere!

Secretary’s box. What the team in the box don’t know, isn’t worth knowing! They are the font of all knowledge, the point of contact for the colouring competition, raffle ticket collection, scheduling and are super helpful.

THANK YOU to all our show services team. You’re all fantastic!

International Volunteering Week 1st - 7th June 2026 Day 4 - Stewards

Here at Chipping Steam Fair, we are hugely privileged to have an amazing team of volunteers who do so much behind the scenes, much of it unseen but definitely not un-noticed.
Today, we are going to focus on our incredible stewards.

You’ll see our stewards in orange hi-viz jackets on site. There are 15 sections at the show - as you can imagine it takes a huge amount of work to collate and process all the entry forms so that exhibitors have all the information needed in plenty of time before arrival day.

During the show, stewards will oversee their sections, ensuring that vehicles make their way into the arena when scheduled so that the timetable runs smoothly.

Our sections are:
Working plant - Geoff
Tractors - Dan
Classic Cars - Phil
Artisan - David and Cherie
Trade Stands - Andrew
Catering - Andrew
Motorcycles - Alex
Pedal Cycles - Pam
Vintage Caravans - Beth
Landrovers - Sam
Military - Ken, David and Joanne
Large steam engines - Chris
Miniature Steam Engines - Matt
Commercial vehicles - Emma and Geoff
Stationary engines - Martyn

Although not sections, we cannot forget:
Lee and Jenson who expertly coordinate vehicles in the arena throughout the weekend and Richard who oversees Health & Safety for the show.

Many of our committee members are exhibitors themselves too so multi talented!

THANK YOU to all our stewards. You’re all superstars!

International Volunteering Week 1st - 7th June 2026 - Day 3.

Here at Chipping Steam Fair, we think every volunteer deserves to be recognised as we couldn’t put on the show we do without their support.

Today, we are going to look at the team who you don’t see much of, but who are definitely vital to the show - Catering and refreshments!

The volunteers in catering are literally the fuel that keeps the show running. Based in the marquee, it’s a hive of activity serving teas/coffees, cold drinks, cakes, sandwiches and snacks; obviously for hygiene reasons, we couldn’t capture too many images in the kitchen itself, however volunteers both at the counter and “behind the curtain” are certainly never still.
They are there from very early in the morning making sandwiches fresh for the day before opening to visitors at 10am.

We certainly can’t spotlight catering without a big shoutout for Longridge Church Girls and Church Lads Brigade. For the last few years, they’ve helped out enormously wheeling the refreshment trolley around site over the duration of the show providing drinks (and not forgetting snacks) to the team ensuring everyone is hydrated and fed. They walk miles over the show weekend in all conditions and when it’s full, the trolley is not the lightest!
This year in very warm temperatures, it was no mean feat delivering lots of iced water! We absolutely love having you at the show and it’s always a pleasure.

THANK YOU to all our volunteers in catering. You’re just awesome! 🌟

International Volunteering Week 1st - 7th June 2026 - Day 2

Here at Chipping Steam Fair, we like to think every day is a day to celebrate our amazing team of volunteers who step up every year and get stuck in. This year we had the biggest ever turnout at over 170 team members!

Today, we are going to look at the front line team, the people you see first on arrival - the Paybox!

There are 5 windows on the Paybox, and the team rotate every few hours. One thing you can guarantee that no matter who is in there, or which window you go to, you’ll be welcomed very warmly! Over the past couple of years, we’ve introduced card payments, which have made the queue move quicker. The volunteers do a fabulous job, especially this year, when it was so warm! We’re very fortunate in that many of the team love the role so much that they return every year to help out.

We love seeing both new and returning visitors, greeting families and four legged friends. It’s so lovely to see little ones, who first attended as babies, now growing up and still loving the show.

THANK YOU to all our volunteers in the paybox. You’re absolutely fabulous!

International Volunteering Week 1st - 7th June 2026 - Day 1

It’s when volunteers from all walks of life, doing all different roles, in all different communities, are celebrated for the part they play - whatever amount of time that may be.

Here at Chipping Steam Fair, we like to think every day is a day to celebrate our amazing team of volunteers who step up every year and get stuck in. This year we had the biggest ever turnout at over 170 team members - we ran out of hi- viz vests at one point!

As most of you are aware, in May 2026 Chipping Steam Fair was awarded “Team of the Year” in the volunteering category at the Ribble Valley Tourism awards. This is testament to every single person involved in the show who work so hard to make it the huge success it is today. Every year it gets bigger and better and this is down to the dedication and commitment of ordinary people. Ordinary people with businesses, jobs and families, yet find the time to be a part of something incredible.

Did you know what only a very small percentage of our committee actually live in Chipping? Most travel, some are fairly local and others travel approximately an hour, to attend the monthly committee meeting.

Over the next few days, we’ll be telling you more about the team. All those people you may not see, but are most definitely vital to what we do.

For now - THANK YOU to all our volunteers. You’re simply amazing.
