This morning, Gareth had a rather special little passenger on board GS Private Hire… meet Arthur the Bearded Dragon! 🦎🥰

Arthur was heading to the vets for some check-ups and to collect his medication, with Gareth making sure he got where he needed to be safely.

When we say we transport pets of all shapes and sizes, we really do mean it! 😂

From dogs and cats to our more unusual, scaly companions, every animal deserves safe, reliable and compassionate transport. ❤️

Today, the Enforcement Officer from Wakefield Council visited to carry out the final checks on our operation, and we’re delighted to say he was extremely happy with everything! 🙌🏻

Our Private Hire Operator Licence is being granted! 🥳

We’re now just waiting for the final paperwork and Operator Number before we can officially open our books!

🚕✨ THE STICKERS ARE ON, THE CAR HAS HAD A DEEP VALET… AND WE’RE BACK TO BUSINESS FROM MONDAY! 😁🐾

It’s been a busy few weeks behind the scenes getting everything ready for the next chapter of GS Private Hire, and we’re nearly there!

The car is looking rather smart with its new branding, it’s had a full deep valet and Gareth is ready to get back on the road from Monday. 🚕❤️

We’re also hoping for a nice quick turnaround on our Private Hire Operator Licence, so fingers crossed we may have some more exciting news by the end of next week! 🤞

🐾 Our application for our Type 2 Animal Transporter Authorisation is also underway. This can take up to 8 weeks to come through, so while we wait, our existing Type 1 authorisation remains valid under The Big Paws Little Paws Co. as we work through the changeover process.

Our Type 1 authorisation covers relevant commercial animal journeys over 65km and up to 8 hours, while Type 2 will allow us to undertake journeys over 8 hours once everything is approved.

🎥 CCTV & DATA PROTECTION

The vehicle also has CCTV operating inside for safety and security, and we are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for our data protection responsibilities.

So behind those shiny new stickers there has been a LOT of paperwork! 😂

🐾🚕 LET’S TALK PET TRAVEL SAFETY

When your dog travels with GS Private Hire, their safety isn’t an optional extra. It’s part of the journey from the moment they climb aboard. ❤️

🇬🇧 WHAT DOES THE HIGHWAY CODE SAY?

Rule 57 states that dogs and other animals should be suitably restrained so they cannot distract the driver or injure themselves or others if the vehicle stops suddenly. It lists a seat-belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard as suitable methods. (GOV.UK)

⚠️ And notice that says HARNESS, not collar.

Please never attach a vehicle restraint directly to your dog’s collar. In sudden braking or a collision, the restraint can place significant force directly through the neck. A properly fitted body harness is the safer option for securing a dog with a seat-belt restraint.

🐕 OUR TRANSK9

Where appropriate, dogs travelling with us will have the option of our TransK9 transit crate, something we’re incredibly proud to have as part of our service.

TransK9 designs its crates specifically around canine and passenger safety. Their range has been independently tested for front and rear impacts and drop tested to assess performance in a rollover-type accident. Features include an emergency rear escape door, anti-slip matting, ventilation and an anti-microbial powder-coated finish. (TransK9 Dog Car Cage)

That rear escape door is particularly clever: if the vehicle’s tailgate became inaccessible following an accident, the dogs can still be reached from inside the vehicle. (TransK9 Dog Car Cage)

🚕 A LITTLE CHANGE TO OUR SERVICE

As GS Private Hire expands, our vehicle will operate with or without the TransK9 installed, depending on the journeys booked.

So if you require transport with your pet, please let us know when booking so we can prepare the vehicle and install the crate where appropriate.

🐾 Pet transport appointments will therefore need to be PRE-BOOKED.

From a trip to the groomers or vets to days out and adventures further afield, we want your companions travelling safely, securely and comfortably.

Because precious cargo comes with paws too. 🐾❤️

⚠️ SO WHY ARE SOME SERVICES COMING SOON?

Because we’re doing this properly!

Gareth has completed his Taxi Licence and will be operational as a licensed taxi driver from next week. 🎉

However, being a licensed driver is only one part of operating GS Private Hire independently.

Wakefield Council requires private hire bookings to be accepted through a licensed operator, and the vehicle itself must also be appropriately licensed.

Our next step is therefore Gareth’s Private Hire Operator Licence.

So although Gareth will be out working as a taxi driver from next week, we’ll need to wait for his Operator Licence to be issued before the new private hire services can be booked directly through GS Private Hire.

Until then, our existing pet taxi, pet courier and pet funeral transport services continue as normal within our current arrangements. 🐾

📣 HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM GS PRIVATE HIRE! 🚕🐾

To all our lovely followers and clients, past and present, we have some BIG news…

Gareth has officially completed his Taxi Licence and is now a fully licensed and insured taxi driver! 🥳

This is a huge step forward and something he has worked incredibly hard towards.

Over the next month, Gareth will be registering for his own Private Hire Operator Licence. Once this is complete, he’ll be able to legally carry passengers, fully licensed, properly insured and completely above board. This means Gareth will be able to offer transport services to people with or without pets.

🚐🐾 Another adventure awaits!

Today Gareth is heading all the way up to Inverness to collect an 18-month-old Border Terrier rescue and bring him safely south to begin the next chapter of his journey. ❤️

Every transport is special, but rescue journeys always hold a little extra magic.

Somewhere along the road today, one dog’s story changes forever as he leaves his past behind and starts a brand-new adventure.

We wish this handsome lad all the luck in the world and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for him. 🐶✨

As always, he’s travelling safely and comfortably with a fully insured, DBS checked, pet first aid trained transporter who understands that every animal deserves a calm and stress-free journey.
