The invoice weight and the weight on your scale are often two different numbers, and that's not a billing error. 📄
Airlines charge on whichever is higher: the actual weight, or the volumetric weight calculated from the dimensions.
Volumetric weight uses a standard formula - length x width x height in centimetres, divided by 6000. A shipment that weighs 25kg but measures 90 x 80 x 50cm works out to 60kg volumetric, and that's the figure you're billed on, not the 25kg on the scale.
This is why bulky, light cargo - think packaging, textiles, anything with empty space inside it - almost always costs more to move than its weight suggests.
