We are delighted to announce that Β£149,448 of Section 75 funding has been secured to deliver the Winchburgh Heritage Trail, Wayfinding and Bench Project. Delivered in partnership with Winchburgh Community Development Trust and Winchburgh Community Council to honor the rich history, improve navigation across the village, and create welcoming spaces for residents and visitors to stop and rest in the community.

The project has been shaped by the hard work of the Winchburgh History and Heritage Group, who meet monthly at the Community Centre, alongside pupils from Winchburgh Academy. Together, they have worked tirelessly to research the many places, stories and points of interest that make Winchburgh unique, helping to bring the village’s heritage to life for current and future generations.

The partners met last week to kick off the programme of works, and we look forward to sharing progress over the coming months.

Great to see coverage of our Developing Winchburgh Programme which provides pupils 6 weeks of in school and on-site opportunities to meet our team, our consultants and housebuilders. We provide insights into what it takes to grow a community from ecologists work through to housebuilders and sales teams and all the stages inbetween with engineers, planners and finance to legal stages.
We very much appreciate everyone’s time being given to the pupils over the programme and hope to have inspired one of two on the way. πŸ˜„

Daisy Park Bridge install ( at last I hear you say πŸ˜„)

As reported at the Communty Council and on our website ,next week 15-17th June the first stage of the canal footbridge starts.
This is the utilities company SPEN repositioning over head power lines under ground by the tow path at the bottom of brick lane.
Therefore the Tow Path and public access at the bottom of the lane will be closed for 3 -4 days while these works take place .
Later in June the main works will begin and there will be further Tow Path closures which we will ensure are communicated via social media and our website and notice board at the marina. Diversion signs will be put in place on the Canal.
We are very excited to see the bridge finally being installed over the canal to enable folks to come over to the marina from the tow path later this summer πŸ˜„

Last week (1 & 2 June) saw the 2nd Annual Quaternity Primary School Tournament take place at Winchburgh Primary School, with 11 classes participating, 12 teachers refereeing and approximately 280 P4–P7 (ages 7 -11) students taking part. Students from Bridgend Primary School also joined the event, with everyone participating in the chess-like educational mindsport.

The Music and Public Art Officer Camille Archer has been supporting the school with the game for 3 years and seeing a huge impact on the pupils learning and enjoyment of this new game, she said β€˜ Having seen the impact of the game WDL generously funded 50 new Quaternity educational sets for the school, helping further expand the groundbreaking Meta Skills educational programme currently being supported through West Lothian Council – Education Services / Community Arts.
This year’s tournament, the conclusion of the 3-year pilot programme, qualifies participating schools and teachers in the official Quaternity Academy pathway. Teachers involved in the programme are beginning the Academy certification process, which provides structured training in delivery, supervision, and long-term programme development inside schools as official facilitators, coaches and referees.
This allows participating schools to host tournaments and learning sessions Locally, Regionally and Internationally as part of The Quaternity Academy, an internationally governed youth mindsport Association focused on strategic thinking, teamwork, and student development.
The tournament itself reflects the continuing growth of the programme within Scottish schools and highlights the strong partnership between schools, Community Arts, West Lothian Council, Winchburgh Development Ltd., and Quaternity Academy in supporting innovative educational opportunities for young people. The event was also supported by volunteer referees from Quaternity Clubs UK. β€˜

Penny joined the tournament and saw first hand how engaging the game is for the pupils and WDL look forward to supporting its growth into the community setting.
