There have been a number of break ins and attempted break ins in recent weeks, with a post on local Facebook groups every other day saying that a car has been stolen or their house has been broken into by snapping the locks.
This post from K-Locks Locksmith Bromsgrove highlights yet another attempted burglary, this time on Stourbridge Road.
The favourite method used by burglars these days is lock snapping which involves snapping the lock and exploiting the mechanism inside to unlock the door. This can be done in as little as 10 seconds, often with no noise whatsoever, meaning they can be in and out of your house in under a minute.
Thankfully the house alarm scared them off on this occasion but had it not, it's not worth thinking about.
It's worth getting an alarm installed if you haven't already. Alarm systems such as Orisec have dedicated vehicle protectors which strap onto your steering wheel and when movement is detected whilst the alarm is armed, it will trigger the house alarm.
Anti snap locks are also a must, with some insurers often specifying them as a condition of cover. It's been known for insurers not to pay out if the lock has been snapped and the locks weren't up to the required standards. The same goes for a house alarm - if it's fitted and not set or maintained correctly, cover can be withdrawn in the event of a burglary.
I've used Ian from K-Locks on several occasions - having anti snap locks fitted to my own property and also having locks changed when I'd lost my keys (which happens often!). I can personally recommend him for anything lock related, especially as it's important to find someone trustworthy when dealing with something as sensitive as home security.
