Hey folks, it's been that busy I've not even found time for an update, so here's a cheeky post for you...

This heat exchanger blossomed from a simple split end cap but further teardown revealed a host of other issues. Top marks for my good buddy and no. 1 welder, Stu who welded up the outlet fl**ge for me so I could reface it...I'm 30 years of salt air has taken its toll and had eaten away a lot of material. I also had to fit a new mixer elbow as the water jacket had corroded down to a pinhole! This also caused one of the tubes to blow in the nest so plugging the offended tube was also needed.

After a descale, new seals, gaskets, refaced end, repaired threads, new copper flashed nuts, new end caps, repaired and pressure tested nest and a new stainless steel elbow, it's all back together and on the money!

Funny how a seemingly small symptom can have so many underlying problems. Such is the way with boats. Look after your machinery folks and it will look after you!

One of the jobs mega jobs that's been taking over my life this summer! This project has been a collab between me and some fantastic trades people/great friends of mine (they don't have Insta handles that I know of so I can't tag them). Joe and Harriet working their magic with the paint job and the genius that is Stu weaving the welding torch. I'm super proud of this engine refit. There's been so much work bringing this boat back to life but the results are incredible

We've put some time aside this year to overhaul our own sailboat, gain some more sailing experience, crewing around Devon, Cornwall and the Bristol Channel. We also do some work at Festivals, creating performance venues and publications, which has kept us very busy.

Now it's back to it.
Lift out - Yard movements at Uphill are starting in September.
We encourage any customers to get your jobs booked in now as we have availability from August.

We are taking jobs both remotely and at Uphill so get in touch.

Remember most of our work is undertaken late summer and over the winter, so don't leave it untill peak summer to try book in urgent work.

Hey folks, hope you're all doing great!

I've been finding myself doing more and more electrical work so here's my latest project. I've been building an enclosure and wiring circuit for an anchor capstan winch.

A lot of problems I come across with private boats are often associated with poor and quite frankly dangerous wiring. The remedial work, which can get sometimes get quite costly is essential for a safe and functional electrical system.

Are you looking for boat repairs in Weston-Super-Mare? After a decade of undertaking mobile boat repairs across the United Kingdom Boat Renovation People are now offering boat repairs and marine services at Uphill.

With an undercover space we are able to work on crafts up to 30ft in length with the addition of onsite boat storage. Larger vessels can arrive by road but will need to be worked on externally in the front or back yard. There is an onsite hoist with a 15 tonne lift capacity and a telehandler to aid with mast drops and alterations. Vessels can also arrive and launch by sea using the onsite facilities - tide-dependent.
There are also currently leisure moorings available on site.

One part of a project I'm working on at the moment. This is a custom helm station for a customers boat. Along with a re-engine, I'm also converting the boat from tiller to hydraulic steering. It's been fun going from taking measurements with the customer specifying their desired helm position, designing the box to fit within the space available, CAD drawing it, having it all profiled and then assembling the puzzle. Looking forward to getting this fitted! 🦄👌

Hey chums! So I'm aware it's been a while. The short of it is; I was involved in an engine room fire and had to take a few weeks out to recover. This in turn has been making the catch up period quite manic!

I any case, thankfully I'm ok and back on the horse. My amazing partner has been looking after me 😍.
