Machu Picchu truly lives up to every expectation… and then some ✨

Hidden high in the Andes, this ancient Incan citadel feels almost surreal when you first see it emerge through the clouds. The scale, the precision, the history – it’s hard to believe it was built over 500 years ago.

There’s something incredibly powerful about standing here, surrounded by mountains, imagining the lives once lived in this extraordinary place.

Machu Picchu isn’t just beautiful… it’s a masterpiece of engineering 🏔️

Built in the 15th century by the Incas, this city was designed with incredible precision – from perfectly cut stones that fit together without mortar, to advanced drainage systems that still function today.

Despite heavy rainfall and earthquakes, much of Machu Picchu remains remarkably intact. The Incas built it in harmony with the landscape, not against it – which is why it has stood the test of time.

It’s not just what you see… it’s how it was built that makes it truly extraordinary ✨

Rainbow Mountain is as challenging as it is breathtaking ⛰️🌈

We got up at 4am to hike today. At 5,200m above sea level, the climb to rainbow mountain is no joke. The air is thin, every step feels heavier, and altitude sickness is very real – slow and steady is key.

But then… you reach the top.

Layers of red, yellow, and green streak across the mountain like nature’s own painting, formed over millions of years. It’s raw, rugged, and completely unforgettable.

A reminder that the hardest climbs often lead to the most incredible views.

Quentin found the climb particularly difficult today because of the altitude (his blood oxygen levels dropped to 83%) & doesn’t think anyone is impressed by his effort & subsequent altitude sickness - so please show your support & leave him a comment.

Walking through the streets, you’ll see women in beautifully embroidered skirts, vibrant shawls, and traditional hats, each detail telling a story of heritage, identity, and pride. They are part of everyday life, passed down through generations.

The colours, the textures, the craftsmanship – it all reflects the deep connection between the Andean people and their history.

You can’t visit Cusco without meeting the locals… the alpacas 🦙💛

Gentle, curious, and completely adorable, these iconic animals are part of daily life in the Andes. Their wool has been used for centuries to create the beautiful textiles you see across Peru.

Whether grazing in the mountains or posing (very willingly!) for photos, they bring so much charm to this already magical place.

Honestly… how can you not fall in love? 😍

Panajachel is the gateway to one of the most beautiful lakes in the world 💙

Set on the edge of Lake Atitlán, surrounded by towering volcanoes, this vibrant town blends colourful markets, lakeside views, and a laid-back atmosphere.

It’s the perfect place to slow down, soak it all in, and watch the light dance across the water as the sun sets behind the volcanoes.

A hidden gem that feels both peaceful and alive at the same time, we were so lucky that a local we met on a bus told us about an amazing little restaurant where we ate every day. ✨

This small lakeside village is known for its strong indigenous culture, vibrant murals, and incredible artisan workshops. Every street feels like an open-air gallery.

From natural dyes to handwoven textiles, everything here is made with care, purpose, and centuries-old techniques.

It’s authentic, colourful, and quietly inspiring 💫

San Pedro has a completely different energy… and that’s the beauty of Lake Atitlán 🌊

Set beneath a dramatic volcano, this lakeside town is a mix of adventure, culture, and relaxed vibes. You might think sunrise hikes, paddleboarding, lakeside cafés, but this was not our experience Darren took us on a challenging rock climb from the far side of the peninsula back to San Pedro, with shear drops & scorpions - although it did have unforgettable views at every turn - by the end of the day we all felt challenged.

Fuego Volcano : Daily Strombolian explosions are occurring at a rate of roughly 6–14 per hour, producing ash plumes that rise up to 1.1 km above the crater, & ash drifting up to 40 km (luckily we were not down wind).

We climbed Acatenango Volcano as a family to watch Fuego erupt next to us.

I’m not going to claim it was easy - it wasn’t & OMG it was incredible to watch.
