Lobsters last week and big bass this week. I don't get a chance to wet a line very often nowadays but sometimes I kid myself I could make a living out of this! Spaces on board the Galloper from Brightlingsea Essex please call 07956411528

So it's pretty safe to say it's shaping up to be a good bass year. They seem to be everywhere and we're getting some stonking fish in places too!
Between these and the fantastic hound fishing we've got some great fishing on offer at the moment. At times we're seeing huge numbers of bass and long may it continue. With any luck there will be plenty more days on them between now and December.

I thought I'd better post some reports on the spurdog fishing this year. As many of my regulars know by now I try not to publish too much about this kind of fishing live for several reasons. I know lots of private, charter and commercial boats watch what I do for a shortcut to the fish.
I'm not doing the leg work for everyone else. Also I know I might cut my nose off to spite my face but I realise that a lot of anglers wait to see what is coming out before booking nowadays and I find that frustrating . It's no good booking based on last week's fishing. That's been and gone!
The spurs were typically hit and miss with some slow long days and other times with absolute madness.
The packs seem smaller and tighter together than they were a few years ago. At times moving just a quarter of a mile was the difference between being on them or not.
They took some finding but we managed a few memorable trips on them and others we'd rather forget 😂. The best trip by far was all made in an afternoon. We hadn't seen a spur all day and hadn't really been exclusively targeting them. We moved 3-4 miles and arrived at around 13.30hrs. The sounder was rammed with fish but that doesn't mean they are feeding. Luckily for us they were and in a frenzy too!
I didn't want to count my chickens but this was some of the best spur fishing we've ever experienced. Luckily many of the lads who joined me had seen fishing like this before so they were well prepared and fishing like a well oiled machine. The fish varied in size but there were lots pushing 20lb and several over it! The biggest was 21.8lb matching several others we had on previous trips this year. I had to call an end to the chaos at just after 5pm when we had just passed 90 spurdog and a new boat record by 2 fish!!
We had loads of other stuff that day with the spurs and on the mark before hand. It was a truly memorable day and big numbers of fish in a short time on single hook rigs on uptide tactics.
I must say it also meant my ego could breathe a sigh of relief too.

Not bad for the first drift of the day! Let's go round again. Bass quota achieved before many boats have left their mooring 🥳 now lets see what else we can find...

Despite wind and rain and an early start the eldest crewman didn't want to go home today. He was still fishing from the mooring.

Where have we stopped this morning? Answers on a Yorkshire pebble please
