Responsible orangutan tourism in Borneo: see them without harming them.
Orangutans = critically endangered. Habitat loss + illegal pet trade. Tourism can help or harm.
β
Visit: Sepilok/Semenggoh centres (Sabah Wildlife Dept managed, funds conservation), Kinabatangan lodges with certified guides (wild settings, minimal disturbance)
β Don't visit: "Orangutan encounters" with photo ops/direct interaction (disease transmission, stress), uncertified treks baiting animals with food
Why: Ethical centres fund forest protection, anti-poaching, rescue ops. Your visit = their survival.
I only work with operators following Sabah Wildlife Dept + Sarawak Forestry Corp guidelines. "Hug an orangutan" = exploitation, not conservation.
Does responsible wildlife tourism factor into your travel choices? Let me know β around evenings and all weekend.
