Brecon Dial-a-Ride

Brecon Dial-a-Ride We are a local charity who run 5 wheelchair accessible minibuses which offer door to door transport for elderly or disabled persons.

This enables them to remain independent and continue to be a part of their local community.

WE ARE LIVE! HELP US KEEP OUR WHEELS TURNING!

You may have seen our "new-to-us" minibuses out and about in the community lately!

Thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donor and the Percy Davies Foundation, we recently welcomed two fantastic, wheelchair-accessible minibuses to our fleet—one based in Crickhowell and one in Brecon. They are more reliable, have more space, and are already making a huge difference.

But here’s the honest truth: even the newest buses don't run on fresh air!

While we have the keys, we still face the daily challenge of rising general running costs. To actually get these buses out on the road every morning, we need to cover fuel, specialised insurance, and rigorous safety checks for our lifts and ramps.

Our service is a vital lifeline for local residents over 60 and anyone living with a disability. It’s the difference between getting to a critical doctor's appointment or a social afternoon, and being completely isolated at home.

How you can help today:
Every single pound stays right here in our community. The more people who support us right at the start, the bigger our campaign grows on the crowdfunding platform!

Whether it's a one-off donation or a small monthly gift to give us a reliable safety net, you are keeping your neighbours connected.

Thank you for your incredible support—let’s keep Brecon and District Dial-A-Ride

Become a Dial-a-Ride Fundraising Hero!
Inspired by our amazing Driver Mark?
Are you looking for a way to give back to your community that fits around your schedule? We are looking for enthusiastic people to join us in an important new volunteer role: Fundraising Supporter!

While our drivers are the face of our service, our fundraisers are the engine that keeps us running. This is a vital role that ensures we can continue providing a "lifeline" for neighbours in Brecon and Crickhowell who rely on us for medical appointments, shopping trips, and social visits.

🌟 Why this role is so important:
Every penny raised goes directly towards the fuel and maintenance of our minibuses. Without dedicated fundraising, we simply couldn't offer the door-to-door support that helps people like Jeanette stay independent and connected.

💡 How you can help (it's easier than you think!):
As a Fundraising Volunteer, you can choose how much time you give. You could:

Organise "Micro-Events": Like a "Tea for Transport" morning or a local bake sale.

Be a Community Connector: Help us place donation jars in local shops or find sponsors for our minibuses.

Champion our Mission: Share our "small change, big impact" challenges with your own network.

🤝 Join the Team!
You don't need a background in finance—just a friendly face and a passion for helping your local community. Whether you want to lead a big challenge or just manage a "spare change" jar, you’ll be making a massive difference.

MAY's MICRO-CHALLENGE: Small Change, Big Change!
We are officially kicking off our Fundraising May, and the best part is that you don't need to run a marathon to help keep our wheels turning!

If you have 5 minutes or a few spare coins, you can help ensure that Crickhowell and Brecon Dial-a-Ride remains a "lifeline" for neighbours like Jeanette.

Here are three easy Micro-Challenges for you this week:

☕ The Coffee Swap: Skip just one takeaway coffee this week and donate that £4 to us instead. That’s enough to help cover the fuel for a local trip to a medical appointment!

🪙 The 'Spare a Pound' Jar: Start a jar on your kitchen counter for your loose change. When it’s full, bring it into our Brecon Charity Shop—you’ll be amazed how quickly those pennies add up to a tank of diesel.

📱 The Digital Shout-out: If you can’t donate right now, simply share this post! Spreading the word helps us find new supporters and reminds the community that we are here to help.

Why it matters: Every donation helps us provide more than just a minibus; we provide independence for wheelchair users like Jenny, getting her to the hairdressers, the shops, and her vital appointments.

Micro-Volunteering: April Round-Up!
What a fantastic month it has been! Throughout April, we’ve been celebrating Micro-Volunteering—those small, "bite-sized" acts of kindness that keep our wheels turning.

A massive thank you to everyone who stepped up. Whether you shared a post from your sofa or popped a flyer in a shop window while out for a stroll, you’ve helped ensure that Dial-a-Ride remains a vital lifeline for our neighbours in Brecon and Crickhowell.

It’s Never Too Late to Help!
The best thing about micro-volunteering is that there is no deadline. You can complete these tasks any time you have a spare five minutes:
Want to go the extra mile?
While micro-tasks are a huge help, we are always on the lookout for regular volunteer drivers and passenger assistants to join our friendly team. If you have a little more time to give and want to make a direct impact on someone's life—like helping Angela get to her appointments—we would love to hear from you.

Micro-Task: The 5-Minute Star Maker!
Got five minutes while you're waiting for the kettle to boil? You can help us reach more neighbours in need without even leaving your sofa!

Your Mission:

Leave us a review on our page or on Google.

Write a quick sentence about why you value Dial-A-Ride or a great find you've discovered in our charity shop.

🚐 Why it makes a difference:
Stay Visible: Reviews help us stay "visible" online, ensuring that when someone in Brecon or Crickhowell searches for transport help, they find us first.

Build Trust: For many, the Dial-A-Ride is a "lifeline." A kind word from a local resident gives a new passenger the confidence to give us a call for that vital medical appointment or shopping trip.

Support the Mission: It’s a simple, free way to help keep our "More Than a Minibus" service running smoothly.

Five minutes and a few stars can help a neighbour find their way back to independence. Thank you for being a "Micro-Volunteer" hero! 🌟🙌

⛳ A Hole-in-One for Brecon Dial - A- Ride! 🚌

We are absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of the Cradoc Golf Teams!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the outgoing Ladies Captain, Diane Davies, who presented Brecon Dial-A-Ride with an incredible cheque for £1,672.18.

Today we’re celebrating one of our incredible volunteers, Mark, who will be doing a bucket collection at Co-op Food Crickhowell from 10:30am to 3pm 🙌

Our Dial-a-Ride service simply wouldn’t exist without people like Mark and the wider team of volunteers who give their time, energy, and care to support others in the community. They are the reason so many people can stay connected, independent, and able to get where they need to go.

If you’re in town today, please stop by, say hello, and show your support if you can. Every contribution helps keep this vital service running 💛

Thank you, Mark — and thank you to all our amazing volunteers. You make a real difference every single day.

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday!

We have an important update to share from Powys County Council regarding upcoming road closures, a bus stop relocation, and changes to the road layout as part of the ongoing Brecon Town Centre Improvements.

Road Closure – High Street

The High Street will be closed from Tuesday 5th May through to Friday 15th May. During this time, there will be no through access for vehicles in the town centre, it will be diverted through lion St. We completely understand this will require some planning ahead, and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Please be reassured that all shops and businesses will remain fully accessible on foot throughout the closure. Safe walkways and clearly marked crossing points will be in place for pedestrians at all times.

St Mary’s Street Update

Following the roadworks and new tarmac being completed on St Mary’s Street (closure from 20th April to 1st May), the road will reopen with a new layout on the 15th of May. Traffic will travel down through St Mary’s Street (rather than up, as it does currently).
This will be in place before the High Street closure begins on 5th May, meaning you will still be able to travel through town via St Mary’s Street during this period.

Access for Deliveries

We understand how important deliveries are for your businesses. While access for larger vehicles may be more restricted at times, SEER Construction will work closely with you to minimise disruption.
We will be visiting businesses this week to discuss delivery requirements, including preferred days and times. Larger delivery vehicles will still be accommodated through town, and we will do our best to ensure access is maintained. Your cooperation with scheduling will be essential in helping us make this work smoothly for everyone.

Bus Stop Relocation

The bus stop currently located at the Bulwark will be temporarily relocated to Free Street from Tuesday 5th May and will remain in place until the end of the works. We will share further details as soon as we receive updates from the council, so please keep an eye out for further information.

We will continue to keep you informed every step of the way. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me directly.
Thank you so much for your continued patience and understanding.
