I was chatting with a client recently about safari holidays, and the subject of accommodation came up - specifically, the misconception that staying in a camp means ‘roughing it’ under canvas. It absolutely does not.

ITS OUR BIRTHDAY! 🥂🎉

Louane turned one this week and what a year it’s been…

254 passengers. 19 new clients. Countless training events, industry dinners, an overseas conference, and an invaluable trip to Australia.

A brand-new website, monthly email marketing (taught myself from scratch), a Google profile, a new home for your reviews - and a new office (furniture STILL incoming).

WHAT A DAY! Tuesday saw me head to Reading for the AITO Mid Year Marketplace - AITO being the Association of Independent Tour Operators.

It was a full-on day of 20 back-to-back meetings with some of the most specialist, experienced, and genuinely individual tour operators out there. No mass-market here. These are people who eat, sleep, and breathe their destinations.

One of the questions we were asked on the day was: what’s one thing you’ll do differently tomorrow? It made me think...

As a travel planner, I have access to an enormous range of suppliers - and events like this bring even more brilliant ones to my attention. But the question I’m constantly asking myself is: which supplier is right for this client and this trip? It’s never simply a case of picking one, running with it, and presenting a price.

What you gain from sitting face-to-face with suppliers - something I don’t take lightly, given I clocked up seven hours in the car Tuesday (yes, seven hours, the traffic was something else!!) is a real understanding of how they differ.

On the surface, many cover the same destinations but dig deeper, and you discover their individual strengths: their USPs, their client type, their price point, their local connections, their niche specialisms. The destination is only half the story. The supplier is the other half.

So, what will I do differently?

I’m going to make sure my clients truly understand why I ask so many questions. It isn’t for the sake of it! For almost any destination, there is a whole array of suppliers I could approach on your behalf. The answers you give are exactly what allows me to cut through that choice and match you to the supplier who will deliver for you on every level. The right questions lead to the right supplier, and the right supplier leads to the trip you’ve always dreamed of! 🤍

Here’s a question for you - how many of the suppliers I met on Tuesday have you heard of?
I’d guess not many.

It’s worth noting, a number of these operate exclusively B2B, meaning they only sell through the travel trade. Another very good reason to come to me.
