Just back from the most special three-night escape to Skiathos with my daughter to celebrate her 30th birthday, and I am still smiling.

We flew from Manchester on Friday morning and arrived into Skiathos early afternoon. After a really quick transfer of around 15 minutes, we were checking in to a beautiful boutique hotel set in the hills just above Megali Ammos. With only around 16 rooms, it felt peaceful and exclusive, with a lovely pool area and stunning views. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, which gave us the freedom to explore in the evenings.

On our first night we headed into Skiathos Town, wandering along the harbour and through the pretty backstreets before choosing one of the many charming tavernas for dinner. The scenery is just breathtaking: the colours, the light, the sounds, the smells of grilled seafood and jasmine, and some of the friendliest people you could hope to meet.

Saturday was our Mamma Mia adventure. We joined a boat trip over to Skopelos, visiting the famous little church on the rock that features in the film. There was great music on board, plenty of fun, and we met some lovely fellow travellers. The boat also stopped at secluded beaches for swimming and sunbathing, both before and after the climb up to the church. That evening it was back into Skiathos Town for relaxed drinks by the harbour and another amazing meal.

Sunday was all about slowing down and soaking it all in. We relaxed by the pool at the hotel, enjoying the peace and views, then headed back down into town later on for a gentle wander around the shops, exploring the side streets and trying different bars and restaurants as the sun went down. Cocktail hour overlooking the harbour was the perfect way to end our trip.

On Monday we enjoyed a final leisurely breakfast before our flight home, arriving back in Manchester late afternoon feeling refreshed, reconnected and full of happy memories.

Skiathos is ideal for a special mother–daughter celebration or a weekend away with friends, but it also works beautifully for a longer holiday. It can be easily twinned with the island of Skopelos if you fancy a Mamma Mia style island-hopping experience. I would highly, highly recommend this gorgeous corner of Greece.

✈️ My Top Packing Tips ✈️

After years of travelling and helping clients plan their holidays, these are some of my favourite packing tips:

✔️ Put an AirTag in your suitcase so you can track your luggage if it goes astray.
✔️ Take an extension lead instead of multiple travel adapters. One adapter can charge several devices.
✔️ Save a digital copy of your passport on your phone.
✔️ Pack a bin bag for dirty laundry. It keeps worn clothes separate from clean ones.
✔️ Keep essential items in your hand luggage in case your suitcase is delayed.
✔️ Put all liquid toiletries in a clear plastic bag before you travel.
✔️ Wear your heaviest shoes at the airport to save valuable suitcase space.
✔️ Roll your clothes instead of folding them to fit more into your suitcase.
✔️ Use packing cubes to keep everything organised and make unpacking easier when you arrive.

A little preparation before you travel can save a lot of hassle when you’re away.
