CPR saves lives but it only works when people know what to do.

Last week, we launched our new CPR Card with over 70 members of the Chinese community.

The card includes simple CPR guidance and QR codes to videos in Cantonese and Mandarin, with accessible subtitles.

Our charity-funded community resuscitation officers were also on hand to demonstrate CPR techniques and help attendees put their new skills into practice.

Shaf Rahim, Patient Inclusion Manager, said: “By providing culturally appropriate and accessible resources, we are helping to break down barriers and ensure more lives can be saved.”

We’re up for another national award!
Our Datix Team has been shortlisted for the RLDatix Awards 2026 for the ‘From Insight to Impact: Driving Safety and Learning at NWAS’ project, recognising our work to improve safety and learning through better use of data and insight. 👏
The project has brought safety and learning information into a single system, helping teams across our services to spot risks earlier and act faster, enabling them to make improvements that directly benefit patient safety, staff safety and wider organisational learning.
A huge well done to everyone involved.
Good luck team 💚

📢 Big news!
Our maternity digital decision support project has been shortlisted for the National HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2026. 👏

We became the first ambulance trust to embed a digital maternity decision tool into our patient record system, OneResponse, helping our clinicians to spot risks earlier and get women to the right care faster. With this project, we’re also helping to shape how maternity safety is supported across other ambulance services. Read more in the comments.

Good luck to everyone involved!

Note: This project is led by a team attending the NWAS Quality Improvement Academy, who adopted the name The MAMAs (Maternity Assessment and Management in the Ambulance Service). It was developed with the support of the trust’s Digital Applications Team, along with a Digital Clinical Safety Officer, whose expertise helped ensure the guidance reflected patient safety priorities and best practice.

Pride is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, recognise progress towards equality and stand together against discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ people.

A huge thank you to the colleagues who gave up their own time to attend Blackpool Pride on Saturday, supporting the LGBTQ+ community alongside an ambulance not rostered for duty.

We're proud to support a culture where everyone feels safe, respected and able to be themselves, whether that's our staff, patients or the communities we serve. 💚🌈

Paul Foley, an ambulance care assistant within our Patient Transport Service, is also a member of our Armed Forces Network and an army veteran, having served with the 14th/20th King’s Hussars and the King’s Royal Hussars.

He is also sharing what D-Day means to him.

Paul said: “D-Day 6 June 1944 is without question the most remarkable of military achievements. The sheer volume of planning, cooperation, movement of troops and equipment was immense.

"As a veteran who served in an active war zone during Operation Granby, I have a personal understanding of the pressures and realities faced in conflict. It reinforces just how significant that sacrifice was.

“On days like this, it is vital that we pause to remember all those who served and sacrificed, regardless of nationality, and to recognise the lasting importance of remembrance.”

Today, on the anniversary of D-Day, we remember the courage, sacrifice and service of those who took part in one of history’s most significant military operations.

Matt Lowe is a tactical commander in our Regional Operations Coordination Centre (ROCC), helping coordinate ambulance resources and support the response to major incidents. He is also a member of our Armed Forces Network.

Before joining NWAS, he served for 13 years in the Royal Army Medical Corps as a combat medical technician and operating department practitioner, with operational tours in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Reflecting on D-Day, Matt said: “D-Day represents the highest example of sacrifice, courage and service in defence of freedom. The soldiers and medics who landed on the Normandy beaches worked under unimaginable pressure, showing extraordinary bravery in the face of overwhelming challenges.

“My experience serving on the Medical Emergency Response Team in Afghanistan gave me some understanding of battlefield medicine, but the scale of what was achieved on D-Day remains remarkable.

“Their actions remind us that peace is fragile and the sacrifices they made should never be forgotten.”

Our patient and public panel volunteers are helping shape research that could make a real difference to people waiting for an organ transplant. ❤️

By sharing their experiences and perspectives, volunteers like Alfredo and Alex (pictured) are helping researchers explore a complex and sensitive area of care, ensuring public views are at the heart of the process.

Thank you to everyone who gives their time to help improve healthcare for the future. 💙
