Airport booked. Cases packed. Taxi’s the bit you don’t want to be messing about with on the morning 😂✈️

We’ve got fixed fares to Newcastle Airport from loads of our local areas, so you can check exactly what your taxi will cost before you book.

Stick your journey into the Local Taxis app, have a look at the price and if you’re happy — get it booked.

Then that’s one less thing to think about.

Holiday mode can start from there 😎

If you pre-book taxis on the Local app, PLEASE read this one 😅

BOOK NOW means exactly that. NOW.

We see this catch people out more often than you’d think.

Someone wants a taxi for 7pm tonight, puts the journey in at lunchtime and presses BOOK NOW thinking they’ll choose the time afterwards.

They won’t.

The booking comes through to us as an immediate taxi and the system starts trying to dispatch a driver straight away.

If you want a taxi later today, tomorrow morning, next Friday… whatever it is:

Press LATER.

That’s where you’ll get the option to choose the date and time you actually want.

Taxi now → BOOK NOW

Taxi anytime in the future → LATER

Sounds ridiculously obvious when you read it like that 😂 but we see this one all the time.

If we’ve just saved one person from accidentally ordering tomorrow morning’s airport taxi tonight, this post has done its job. ✈️😂

What’s something you absolutely refuse to buy the cheap version of?

Doesn’t matter what it is.

Coffee. Ketchup. Toilet roll. Trainers. Washing-up liquid 😂

There’s always that ONE thing where the cheaper version just isn’t happening.

What’s yours?

“How was my taxi more expensive this time? I went to exactly the same place.”

Probably one of the most common fare questions we get — and it’s actually a fair question.

Here’s the bit that isn’t always obvious.

When the taxi is moving, the meter charges for distance.

When the taxi is stationary, it switches to time.

So the exact same journey might fly through in 10 minutes one day, then spend another day sitting at traffic lights, crawling through roadworks or stuck in traffic for half an hour.

Same pick-up. Same destination. Very different amount of the driver’s time.

That’s why you’ll sometimes see waiting time on a metered journey, and why a fare you’ve done before isn’t necessarily going to finish on exactly the same amount every time.

It also means the driver is still being paid for their time when the traffic isn’t moving — which, for self-employed drivers, is only fair. Otherwise a 45-minute journey could effectively pay them the same as one that took 10.

Our drivers will always endeavour to take the quickest and most cost-effective sensible route they can.

But if there’s a particular way you’d prefer to go, just tell your driver at the start of the journey. They’ll be more than happy to take you that way.

One thing you learn very quickly running taxis:

“ASAP” can mean two completely different things.

Sometimes it means:

“I’m standing outside ready now.”

Other times it means:

“Get the taxi here immediately while I finish getting dressed, find my keys and say goodbye to everyone.”

The difficult bit is finding out which ASAP you’ve been given 😂

If you use the Local app, give us 20 seconds because this could save you and your driver a load of messing about 🙈

One of the biggest mistakes we see is people assuming the location pin has picked the exact address they’re standing at.

It hasn’t always.

Look at the picture.

The passenger is standing at Morrisons in Blaydon.

The app has automatically selected Wesley Court as the pick-up.

The pin is there to find your general location, but depending where you’re standing it can sometimes grab a nearby address instead.

So before you press book, just look at the PICKUP box.

If it’s wrong, tap it and type the correct address in manually.

Takes five seconds. Saves the driver looking for you somewhere you’re not.

Don’t just trust the pin. Check the address📍

There are some places round here that everybody seems to call something different.

Old pub names. Shops that disappeared years ago. Buildings that changed hands three times but somehow kept the first name 😂

What’s one local place you still call by its OLD name?

This could get confusing very quickly 👀

Last day of August.

Feels like about five minutes ago everyone was saying “once the kids break up…” and somehow we’re already at school uniforms, darker nights and wondering whether it’s too early to put the heating on 😂

Summer absolutely flew over this year.

Sunday mornings are a completely different taxi shift.

No chaos. No “where are you?” phone calls from outside pubs.

Just airport cases, work uniforms, shopping bags and people quietly heading wherever they need to be while half the North East is still in bed.

Then somewhere around lunchtime it all starts again 😂

Enjoy the quiet while it lasts.
