📸✈️ What a fantastic day at Hangar 42!

The second WW2 Themed Photoshoot of the year at the Hangar 42 Spitfire Visitor Centre was a huge success with photographers taking full advantage of the incredible aircraft, military vehicles and authentic period scenes on offer.

From inside the hangar to the airfield, there was no shortage of fantastic photographic opportunities and it was brilliant to see so many photographers making the most of this unique setting.

A huge well done to the team at Hangar 42 for once again putting together such a wonderful event.

We’d also like to say a big thank you to Andy Bell for capturing the behind-the-scenes moments from the day as well as producing an incredible collection of finished images. His photographs really showcase both the atmosphere of the event and the amazing results achieved by the photographers attending. 👏📸

It’s been brilliant to see the WW2 Themed Photoshoot return for its second outing this year and we’re already looking forward to seeing what Hangar 42 has in store for the next one!

Our Trainee Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) role could be the job for you!

You don’t need years of experience or an established career in aviation to get started. As part of our Air Traffic Engineering Team you’ll receive structured training over a programme of up to three years to work towards a full ATSEP qualification.

📍✈️ Airport Visitor ✈️📍

We were delighted to welcome these RAF Phenom T1s to Blackpool Airport recently.

The Embraer Phenom 100, known in RAF service as the Phenom T1, is a twin-engine training aircraft used by No. 45 Squadron at RAF Cranwell for multi-engine pilot and mission aircrew training.

Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW617F turbofan engines, the Phenom T1 can operate at altitudes of up to 41,000 feet and has a top speed of around Mach 0.70!

✉️ World Post Day

Today marks World Post Day, so we're looking back at an early chapter in the history of airmail, which took place right here at Squires Gate.

According to reports, in 1910 aviation pioneer Claude Grahame-White took part in the Blackpool Flying Carnival and attempted to carry mail by aeroplane from Squires Gate to Southport ✈️📮

On 20 August, a bag labelled “Aeroplane Mail”, containing several thousand postcards, was carried by aircraft. Historical sources differ on the precise aircraft used during the various airmail attempts.

High winds meant the journey could not be completed, with the mail carried by air for more than seven miles before the flight ended.

Over a century later, the story remains a fascinating part of our history

This month in our series we're explaining TAF, which stands for Terminal Aerodrome Forecast.

A TAF is a standard aviation weather forecast for an aerodrome that provides information about the expected weather conditions over a specified period.

Forecast information can include:
🌬️ Wind — direction and speed
👀 Visibility — how far it is expected to be possible to see
☁️ Cloud — cloud cover and height
🌧️ Weather — such as rain, fog or thunderstorms

Safety starts on the ground ✅

Runway inspections play a vital role in keeping Blackpool Airport safe and operational.

Regular inspections allow our team to check for foreign object debris (FOD), wildlife, runway surface conditions, lighting, markings and anything else that could affect aircraft operations.

We also monitor changing weather conditions as rain, ice, snow or standing water can affect the runway surface and aircraft braking performance.

These checks are an essential part of the work that happens behind the scenes to keep passengers, pilots and our airport teams safe. 💙

We have an exciting vacancy for a Trainee Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP)

It's a great opportunity to start a long-term career in aviation working towards a full ATSEP qualification over a training programme of up to three years.

No previous ATSEP experience is required.

In this role you will play an important role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of Blackpool Airport.

We’re looking for someone who is:
🔹 Practical, reliable and keen to learn
🔹 Interested in engineering, electronics and technology
🔹 Highly organised with strong attention to detail
🔹 A confident communicator who enjoys working with others
🔹 Able to work independently and as part of a team
