🛩️ Southport Airshow Weekend 🛬

It’s been a fantastic and busy weekend at Blackpool Airport as we teamed up with the brilliant crew at Hangar 3 to safely coordinate the aircraft arriving and departing for the Southport Airshow ✈️🚁

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the weekend such a success! 💙

📸✈️ A reminder for photographers – Hangar 42’s WW2 Themed Photoshoot returns in September!

Earlier this year, photographers from across the region enjoyed a fantastic WW2 Themed Photoshoot at the Hangar 42 Spitfire Visitor Centre, capturing rare wartime aircraft, military vehicles and authentic period scenes both inside the hangar and out on the airfield.

The images shared from the day were superb and perfectly captured the unique atmosphere of this special venue. We’re delighted that Hangar 42 is bringing the event back in September!

📅 Friday 25th September 2026
⏰ Sessions: 9am–12pm and 1pm–4pm

We're still on a high following the incredible Blackpool Airshow weekend earlier this month ✈️☀️

We’ve loved seeing all the fantastic pictures shared online and in the press capturing the impressive displays that filled the skies above Blackpool.

While all eyes were on the action overhead there was plenty happening on the ground too! Here are some behind-the-scenes glimpses of the ground operations that helped make the weekend such a success.

A huge thank you to Al Rutter from our ATC team, as well as aviation photographer Andy Bell, for these brilliant images.

Next up is Southport Airshow on the 29th & 30th August and we're looking forward to another busy one!

Join our Air Traffic Services Team!

Are you passionate about aviation and looking to take the first step in an Air Traffic Control career?

We’re looking for a motivated Air Traffic Services Assistant (ATSA) to join the team here at Blackpool Airport.

As an Air Traffic Services Assistant (ATSA), you’ll play an important role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of Blackpool Airport. You’ll assist with operational communications, administrative tasks, flight information support and the coordination of day-to-day airfield activity.

You will be required to complete a two-week training course to qualify as an Aeronautical Meteorological Observer (course, travel and accommodation will be provided).

What we’re looking for:
Aged 18 or over
5 GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths
Full, clean UK driving licence
Strong communication and organisational skills
The ability to remain calm and focused in a busy operational environment
A genuine passion for aviation
Ability to obtain the necessary security clearance, including DBS

Starting salary: Living Wage as a trainee, with progression up to £35,000 per annum depending on experience gained.

We're proud to share the results of our recent 𝗖𝗔𝗔 𝗔𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 ✅✈️

Following a comprehensive two-day assessment, the Civil Aviation Authority commended Blackpool Airport across a range of areas, including our documentation, operational processes, equipment and overall standards.

One piece of feedback we're especially proud of was:
"These are the standards we would expect from a much larger operation."

This achievement is a testament to the dedication, professionalism and teamwork shown by colleagues across the airport every single day. From Operations, RFFS, Refuelling, ATE and ATC to our wider support teams, everyone played a part in achieving this fantastic result. 👏

A huge thank you to every member of the Blackpool Airport team for your continued commitment to safety, compliance and operational excellence. It's your hard work that keeps our airport operating to the highest standards. 💙

✈️🦅 Aviation aces cross flight paths at Blackpool Airshow!

One flies at Mach speed. The other takes to the skies on feathered wings.😄

Last weekend, Typhoon Display Pilot, Flt Lt Tom Nation met Geoff the Harris Hawk from Lancashire Bird Control at Blackpool Airport, bringing together two very different aviation aces!

While Flt Lt Nation wowed hundreds of thousands of spectators, Geoff was hard at work behind the scenes, helping to deter birds that could pose a risk to aircraft.

Visitors enjoyed the spectacular variety of military and civilian aircraft while our teams were busy behind the scenes.

From Hangar 3 handling arriving, departing and displaying aircraft to Lancashire Bird Control keeping the skies safe and our Fire, Operations, Air Traffic Control, Refuelling and Security teams all working together, it takes a huge team effort to deliver a safe and successful airshow.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make Blackpool Airshow 2026 such a success and a special thanks to Andy Bell for capturing this amazing picture! 💙✈️

🔤 Airport ABC ✈️

This month in our Airport ABC series we’re looking at AGL, which stands for Aeronautical Ground Lighting 💡🛬

AGL refers to the network of lights installed across an aerodrome to help pilots safely operate during take-off, landing and ground movements, especially at night or in periods of reduced visibility.

Why AGL matters:
💡 Pilot guidance – helps aircraft identify runways, taxiways and important airfield areas
🌙 Night operations – allows airports to operate safely after dark
🌫️ Low visibility support – provides vital visual references when weather conditions reduce visibility
🛫 Safe movement – helps pilots navigate the airfield between the runway and parking areas
🔧 Airfield safety – requires regular inspections, maintenance and testing to ensure reliability

AGL forms an important part of our airfield infrastructure, and helps to support safe and efficient aircraft movements every day.

What a fantastic start to the weekend! The skies above Blackpool came alive today with an incredible mix of aircraft.

A huge thank you to all the display teams, pilots and crews who helped make day one such a success. We’re looking forward to more flying action tomorrow!
