A public consultation has been launched today for feedback on the Inverness Interchange feasibility study in partnership with HITRANS and Scotland’s Railway.

The study was commissioned to explore the creation of a comprehensive transport and active travel hub within the ‘Station Quarter’ area of Inverness.

The consultation will run until 10 April 2026 and can be accessed here: https://consult.highland.gov.uk/kpse/event/E78321FD-EAFA-417A-93EC-5A708B299F7A/

A public drop-in event will also be held at Inverness Library on Wednesday 11 March 2026 from 11am to 6.30pm.

An update from Community Station Group volunteer, Garth:

The footpath from platform 2 to the Glen Road has now been mostly finished, including provision of tarmac as far as, but not under, the bridge. There is some finishing off work needed to the path, but the supervisor thinks this should be completed this week, say Wednesday or Thursday. The path under the bridge needs completing, and also the installation of new curbing from the bridge to the bottom of the existing steps to the station, which latter will probably be done next week. The supervisor says that the Birnam Glen Road will be closed from Monday morning onwards next week.

As soon as the path to platform 2 has been completed, it will be opened. From then on, for a short time, the steps may need to be closed temporarily to allow ducting to be installed alongside the path, for the new lighting at the top of the steps. During any closure, foot access from Birnam Glen will be available via the new path to platform 2, and then via the footbridge to platform 1; there will always be someone from the contractors there on site in case of difficulty. The footbridge and access to platform 2 will be open all the time from the car park.

At some time during the work, a total of 11 new lighting posts will be erected along the Glen Road, near the bridge and adjacent to the new path. However, some lighting of the path closer to the platform will be via low level bollards along the side of the path.

Thank you Garth!

It has been a busy time again at the Station!

As Spring appears, do pop up to see all the improvements to accessibility emerging with the sunshine, starting with the step free route to Platform 2 🌤️🌱🌿 and the upgrading of the road up Birnam Glen to be completed in the coming weeks.

Lots of people are enjoying the more accessible services from the shiny new platforms and the sunshine when it comes, sitting on the benches - lots of bikes, buggies and families travelling.

There seems to be plenty Red Squirrel activity too, hearing about regular reported sightings. 🌳💦☀️

Any difficulties travelling or at Station, please report on helpline on Platform One so these are logged and passed on, thank you!
