STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO APPLYING FOR SCHENGEN/EUROPE VISA
Step 1: Determine the Type of Visa You Need
Schengen Visas are mainly short-term (Type C), for:
Tourism
Business
Visiting family/friends
Cultural/sports events
Medical reasons
If you plan to stay longer than 90 days, you’ll need a national visa instead.
Step 2: Decide Which Country to Apply To
Apply to the country where you will spend the most days.
If visiting multiple countries equally, apply to the country of first entry.
Step 3: Schedule an Appointment
Visit the embassy/consulate or their official visa processing center (e.g., VFS Global) website to book an appointment.
Step 4: Fill Out the Visa Application Form
Complete the Schengen Visa application form online or download it and fill it manually.
Make sure the form is signed and dated.
Step 5: Gather Required Documents
Common required documents include:
Valid passport (issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least 3 months beyond return date)
Completed and signed application form
Passport-sized photos (2, recent, as per Schengen photo specs)
Flight reservation or itinerary
Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings or invitation letter)
Travel insurance (minimum coverage of €30,000, valid across Schengen area)
Proof of financial means (bank statements, payslips, sponsorship letter)
Cover letter (explaining purpose of travel)
Visa fee payment (usually €80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12, free for under 6)
Additional documents may be needed based on:
Employment status (employed, self-employed, student, retired)
Purpose of travel
Step 6: Attend the Visa Interview
Submit your application in person
Provide biometric data (fingerprints and photo)
Pay the visa fee
Answer questions related to your trip
Step 7: Wait for Processing
Processing usually takes 15 calendar days, but it can take longer in some cases.
Step 8: Collect Your Passport
You’ll be notified to pick up your passport or it may be delivered to you.
If the visa is approved, check the details carefully (dates, name, number of entries, etc.)
Tips:
Apply at least 15 days before travel, but no earlier than 6 months before.
Ensure all documents are authentic and accurate.
Do not book non-refundable flights or hotels until you receive the visa.
