Spontaneous picknick in Verdun sur le Doubs, such a lovely and very frenchlike spot.. both barges have arrived from St. Jean de Losne.. well this is the amazing spirit of the Piper Boat Family!!!

BREAKING NEWS! Avalon has conquered the English Channel—crossing from Calais to Dover and back again the very next day! 🥂🍾 Along with sightings of seals and dolphins, there was visual and radio contact with the Polish Navy, which slowed down its maneuvers slightly to let the elegant Piper barge pass by more easily! The proud owner reports that on one day, the water was as smooth as a baby’s bottom! A fantastic adventure and a resounding success! 💥

Millie Part II - as reported she was on her way from the South in France to St. Jean de Losne…here you see her on the river Rhône and Saône and finally, after almost 900 km, arriving into the PIPER port at the Canal de Burgundy in St. Jean de Losne. Thanks to Lesley and Stewart from the PIPER Boat Family who brought Millie all the way here. ⚓️

Part 1 – The PIPER Barge Milly is on her way from the south-west of France – specifically from Moissac in Occitanie – via the Canal de Garonne to Toulouse, then into the Canal de Midi, the Étang de Thau and the Canal de Rhône to Sète, and across the Little Rhône into the Main Rhône to Saint-Jean-de-Losne – a total of just under 900 km. There she will be met by her new owner, a German from Berlin, who will then take her to her new home. Wow, what a journey for Milly – and all in sweltering heat of around 40 degrees. See for yourself… The pictures best tell the story of this marvellous adventure: including narrow waterways through unspoilt, lush countryside; the famous Canal du Midi and its southern French charm and savoir-vivre; nine well-known locks in succession, down to Bézier; bridges that rise to allow boat traffic to pass through the canal; palm trees lining the banks, the Ètang de Thau lagoon with its oyster farms on the journey to Sète and other lagoons with stunning, flat, open views close to the Mediterranean coast, from small holiday homes on the water – former fishermen’s shacks – right through to romantic, wild mooring spots in the Petit Camargue. Onwards into the big Rhône.. Part II

The Berliner Piper owner Andrea and Andreas from the barge Rives & Reves present us the unspoilt and romantic waterways around the greater Berlin area and former east parts of Germany, a real eldorado for boating which includes many jumps from the boat into the refreshing rivers. What else is needed in a hot summer like this one?

The latest US addition to the PIPER Boat Family are Ronny and Dana from San Francisco. Well, who’s who here? Is Ronny the male captain, or is it Dana? This incredibly likeable couple are well aware of these name-related questions and mix-ups, and take it all very relaxed. So: Ronny may have a male first name, but apart from that there’s nothing masculine about her, whilst Dana, who has a more a female first name, is the skipper aboard the Calliope, which they bought second-hand – without even seeing it in person, just from a video. How do you end up on an adventure like this? By having good friends, namely Gilian and Jack from the PIPER Proper Job. The 2 couples have been friends for a long time, and Ronny and Dana were inspired by their spontaneous friends to buy a PIPER of their own and turn their backs on the US for quite a while. They’ve had plenty of boating experience, having previously owned a 42-foot trawler in San Francisco.
They’ve made a few changes to Calliope and adapted her to their needs. A microwave and a dishwasher have been fitted, the bathroom has been retiled, and now they’re absolutely delighted with their PIPER barge. They’ve sold two homes in the States and no longer own a car – just their PIPER and two bicycles on board. Their winter base will be Strasbourg; apart from that, they have no fixed plans and are just going with the flow. They also don’t yet know exactly how long they want to stay on Calliope… three years, perhaps? In winter, they’ve decided, they’ll return to San Francisco for 3 months and rent a furnished flat, so they can spend time with their two daughters and grandchildren. They’ve lived there all their lives; the couple have been together for 46 years, and Dana, now in his early 70s, is embarking on a whole new adventure with this new life plan. Hats off to them, and a very warm welcome to the international PIPER Boat Family.
