We’ve taken an important next step in realising our Master Plan 2040 vision, submitting Proposal of Application Notices (PANs) to Belfast City Council and Ards and North Down Borough Council.

This marks the start of the planning process, where formal consultation will take place to inform any future planning applications.

The draft proposals form part of a potential £200 million private investment outlining an ambitious vision to transform our facilities, helping us grow responsibly and sustainably to accommodate 7 million passengers annually by 2040.

The draft infrastructure proposals include plans for:

🛠️ Enhanced passenger facilities, including provisions for a future pedestrian bridge linking the terminal to a proposed rail halt
🛫 New airfield infrastructure
✅ Improved access
🚗 Additional parking
⛽ A new multi-modal forecourt
🏨 Complementary airport uses, including a hotel

In parallel with the draft infrastructure proposals, we will be seeking amendments to our existing Planning Agreement. These draft changes are likely to include:

🕐 A one-hour increase in scheduled operations, moving from a 15-hour day to a 16-hour day, with scheduled movements allowed up to 22:30, whilst maintaining the current no-fly period between 00:00 and 06:29

✈️ An increase in annual traffic movements from 48,000 up to 61,000, which will be accommodated within the airport’s existing noise contour area limit and environmental controls

Over the coming weeks, we'll be launching a programme of community consultation, including public information events. Your feedback will help shape the final proposals.

As an airport in the heart of the city, we’re proud to be part of our local community and want you to be part of the conversation about what’s next.

By working together with residents, businesses and local representatives, we can create an airport that continues to connect and support Northern Ireland, while being a responsible neighbour every step of the way.
