The Basingstoke Town Football Club ClubHouse in Winklebury are opening their doors to anyone feeling the heat from 12pm on Wednesday. Please click below to read their “Dear Community” post.

Dear Community!

With temperatures set to remain exceptionally high, we'll be opening the Clubhouse from 12pm tomorrow as a cool, air-conditioned space for anyone in our community who would benefit from getting out of the heat.

Whether you're an older resident, part of a care home group, working from home, a parent with young children, or simply looking for somewhere comfortable to spend a few hours, you're welcome.

There is no catch. No obligation to buy anything. Just a safe, comfortable space with air conditioning, seating and friendly faces.

When we asked the question, the response told us there was a genuine need. If we can help people stay comfortable during the hottest part of the day, then it feels like the right thing to do.

Please share this with anyone who may benefit.
Doors open from 12pm.

Due to this weeks extreme weather conditions, we have taken the difficult decision to close all of our community cafes and our exercise class this week.

Whilst we understand this will be disappointing for many people, the health and safety of everyone involved is our most important concern. Please take care in this heat, we have posted advice about this on posts below.

Here is a really helpful checklist from Greener Basingstoke about staying safe in the heatwave. If you click on the post to open it up, you will see the list in full.

Please take care of yourself and others. especially those that may be vulnerable.

Whatever your view on climate change, next week is going to be hot - dangerously so for some people.

Look after yourself and people more vulnerable than you. Here are some things you can do to minimise the impact of next week's heatwave.

Please share.

Keep yourself cool:

✅ Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

✅ Avoid too much alcohol, caffeine, and very hot drinks.

✅Wear light, loose, light-coloured clothing.

✅ Use a hat and sunscreen if you go outside.

✅Stay in the shade during the hottest part of the day.

✅Take cool showers or put cool water on your skin.

✅ Reduce strenuous exercise in the heat.

✅Check on older people, children, and anyone vulnerable.

Keep your home cool:

✅ Close curtains and blinds during the day.

✅Keep windows shut while it’s hotter outside than inside.

✅Open windows early morning and late evening

✅Turn off lights and appliances you don’t need.

✅ Avoid using ovens, tumble dryers, etc during the day

If your home gets too hot, spend time in a cooler place.

Simple daily routine:

✅ Morning: open windows and let cooler air in.

✅Daytime: shut windows, blinds, and curtains.

✅Evening: open windows again and use a fan if needed.

✅All day: drink water and pace yourself.

Watch for heat illness:

❌ Headache.

❌Dizziness.

❌Nausea.

❌Confusion.

❌Heavy sweating or hot dry skin.

If someone shows these signs, move them to a cooler place, give water if they’re awake, and get medical help if they worsen.

With temperatures set to rise, the UK Health Security Agency has issued a Yellow Heat-Health alert for our region from 3pm on 17 June 2026 to 8pm on 22 June 2026.

Stay safe with these top tips from the NHS:

👋 Keep a close eye on older people, young children, and people with long term health conditions – their bodies can struggle to cope with the heat.

🏖️ Keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm and plan ahead to avoid being out in the heat.

🧴Wear sunscreen, a hat, and light clothes, and avoid strenuous exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

🚰 Cool yourself down. Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol and caffeine.

🏡Keep your living space cool. Close windows during the day and open them at night – if it safe to do so.

Due to weather reports of extremely high temperatures on Tuesday (23rd June), we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Armed Forces Event and cafe at Church Cottage.

While we were looking forward to it, the health and safety of everyone involved comes first. Thank you for your understanding.

Loneliness is not the same as being alone 🧡

This week is Loneliness Awareness Week 2026, and the theme is we’re Giving Loneliness a Voice.

Loneliness is a natural human emotion that we all experience, even when surrounded by people.

Talking about it can help. Many of us don’t realise that someone who looks completely okay on the surface may be struggling with feelings of disconnection.

🧡 Join us and ask yourself: What does loneliness feel like to you?

Share in the comments, or talk to someone you trust.
