I don’t usually comment on here but I think I should to put the record straight about my lorry in this picture.
The lorry and the tractors in this picture would have been originally been bought on finance and we don’t own them until we finish paying for them, the finance company do, so we might look like we are rich because we drive these tractors. They cost around £140,000 each when we finance them from new, they depreciate each year as we wear them out so that’s money lost, but we need to have them to farm our farms so they are needed for our job to produce food to feed the people of this country. The same as we need our farm land to produce food, it’s a tool of our business and the point we are trying get across is this tax they're putting on family farms is going to mean that my children and other farmers children will have to sell off parts of their farm to pay the tax making the farm that’s left to small to make a living from .
60 or so years ago my family made a living off of 150 acre farm now due to rising costs and food prices not rising at the same rate we need farms to be much bigger to be viable, if they are split up food production may be comprised and we may well be relying on foreign imports and with the instability in the rest of the world. I personally don’t want to be relying on that . One last point to put the record straight, my lorry is run on white diesel the same as the rest of the lorry’s on the road. The diesel was also kindly paid for by fellow farmers that could not go because they have to stay home and look after there stock.
