Today’s nice weather trip was a well being outing to a favourite place for our customer - Broadway Tower.
Broadway Tower is a grade 2 listed iconic landmark on top of the beautiful Cotswolds created in 1799 with a viewing platform on the top at 312m above sea level. Originally built by the 6th Earl Of Coventry for his wife. There is a bonfire beacon nearby which in 1837 was used as a beacon for Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. It was built on the site of the Campden Wonder executions in 1662 where a mother and her two sons were wrongly hanged.
There is a memorial to the crew of a bomber that crashed there during a training mission in 1943. In the 1950’s an underground Royal Observer Corps monitoring post was built, it was decommissioned during the 1990’s but it has now been restored and is accessible to visitors.
One of the cafe’s is wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet (we didn’t try the other cafe). Apart from the tower the rest of the site is very wheelchair accessible with a decent pathway and the ability to admire the spectacular views that stretch as far as the Welsh mountains to the west, Birmingham and Telford to the north and Oxford to the east.

As its now May,……may we introduce you to the new licensed member of the the family. Keeping the fleet’s silver colour scheme this beauty will be used mainly for cruise ship and airport transfers, along with day trips, evenings out, and weddings.

A recent private hired Cotswolds tour took our customers to Stow On The Wold and Bourton On The Water.
Stow played an active part in the civil war in 1646 when the royalists were defeated in the market square by the parliamentarians.
During the 18th century Stow was a prominent livestock dealing town. As the wool trade declined this was followed by horse dealing with the famous Stow Fair still held twice yearly during May and October. The Porch House Inn lays claim to being the oldest pub in England - 947AD
The Who guitarist John Entwistle lived in Stow and his funeral was held in the church. The 11th century St Edward’s church north door has centuries old yew trees wrapped around the entrance giving a magical appearance, folklore suggests that this inspired J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Doors of Durin’ in Lord Of The Rings due to the similarity.
Today Stow with its many eateries is a in base for tourists.
The quaint English village of Bourton On The Water with the clear stone bottomed river running through the centre and it’s shallow stone bridges is always worth a visit, sometimes the trout are visible. A popular attraction is the 1/9th scale replica of Bourton itself, which is a Grade II-listed attraction. The model village was constructed in 1936 and took 4 years to complete. Local building materials were used as were 8 local craftsmen from the building trade, including Tom’s great grandfather who constructed the roofs from local Cotswold stone. His name is on the plaque.
There is also a Birdland, a motor museum and toy museum. Although there are many eateries to choose from, many visitors picnic by the river.

On Sunday driver Fiona gave a tour for some overseas students to visit Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire.
Sudeley Castle is a Grade I listed castle in the Cotswolds, known for its 1,000 years of history, beautiful gardens, and the only private castle to have a queen buried on its grounds. It is a significant historical site where Henry VIII and Katherine Parr lived, and was also used as a royalist base during the Civil War.
The castle was a royal residence for Henry VIII, who visited with Anne Boleyn.
Queen Katherine Parr, the last of Henry VIII's wives, lived and died at Sudeley. She is buried in the 15th-century St. Mary's Chapel within the castle grounds, making Sudeley the only private castle with a queen buried on its property.

Fiona especially enjoyed meeting Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn.
